King Tendulkar Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Your lion is overrated as a captain. He was more a manager ( gets the right guy in the team) than a captain: his onfield captaincy was above average, nothing more. If i were to pick a group of 10 players+ captain, let them play with each other for over a year and pick a captain that would best use the 10 players on field, i can think of atleast a dozen names I'd pick before Imran Khan. I would, however, have Imran as team manager/selector. Agree But he is still better then dhoni
putrevus Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Agree But he is still better then dhoni how is better captain than dhoni? He never won any world cup when he was in peak.It was by fluke rain rule he won, the least deserving world champs of all time. What great wins overseas he has, other than beating a worthless England team. I hate Dhobi but he is definitely better than overrated Imran Khan who had no in game tactics what so ever.

Imran was responsible for Pakistan producing some of the best fast bowlers ever. Dhoni meanwhile continued the legacy of trundling and continued to employ "ATGs" like Ishant for 50 tests. This is their main difference.

Dhoni meanwhile continued the legacy of trundling and continued to employ "ATGs" like Ishant for 50 tests. This is their main difference. that is most utter tosh I have ever heard, how is Imran responsible for producing Akram and Waqar. Then how come he has stopped producing them now. Yes he might have been their idol and he might have helped them become better bowler but giving credit for their success totally to Imran is just ridiculous and Akram was discovered and given debut under Javed. What has all that got to do with Imran the captain, he could have done all that by being just a bowler. Dhobi has his faults but he is also equipped with least of all captains you have to take this under consideration. When pitches suit his bowlers Imran cannot hold candle to dhobi as a captain.
pace92 Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Dhoni is a good captin if India play all matches at home, but when it comes to overseas games, his record is not to be proud of. In contrast IK won a test series in India and ODI 6-1, won a test series in England, almost won in WI, won a worlcd cup, not on home soil but in Asutalia. Still wanna compare Dhoni with IK, well you can do it, only on an Indian forum.

May be u know more than wasim akram, waqar younis who said they used to ask after each ball where to bowl to imran khan,He was the brain behind them.
sillymidoff Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 havent seen much of imran but i get the feeling both are more man-managers than actual strategists.
ISIagent Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 "Any question on captaincy for me, Imran Khan is my favourite, always. Everything he did, nearly always, trying for wickets… when he had the legspinner Abdul Qadir, he really didn't like to bowl him negatively, tried to bowl him to get wickets all the time. And quite frankly, he had to be so strong, aggressive and positive because anybody who's having to handle a Pakistan team is going to have to act like God. That is probably the toughest job in world cricket. When you get the job in Pakistan - they're so headstrong are many of the players, so many ex-players try to interfere, there's political interference from ministers and people - that's the most nightmare scenario to captain in Pakistan. I thought at the time he did it, he was absolutely and unbelievably brilliant. " - Geoff Boycott :hatsoff:

Yes it was in reverence both Akram and Younis have said Imran helped them and he has helped but I don't think it proves anything about his captaincy. You are talking as if Imran is only guy in world who has helped youngsters and all other experienced played don't do anything for younger players. Many players have credited Sachin in helping their batting issues so does that make Sachin a great captain. Your point is like Dhoni taking Credit for Virat Kohli becoming superstar.Kohli gave lot credit to Dhoni lot of times.
Marut Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 u r repeating the lahori logic by padosis .. if dhoni have bowlers like wasim , waqar or aquib , there is no reason he wont pick them .. do you think dhoni is a factory for producing pace bowlers ?? :giggle: Ask Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib et al - on how he contributed to their success. Great bowlers do not come on their own, they need to be spotted and groomed in the proper way and Imran was a specialist in this - India has invested much into pace bowling through the MRF and such things - but have produced nothing significant.

Thats not captaincy, thats called being a specialist senior sharing his specialist skills with budding specialists. That he was captain while he did this, is incidental. Incidentally, Courtney Walsh and Malclom Marshall were great, great mentors and spotters of fast bowling talent too. Doesnt mean they have produced great proteges. To get great proteges, the proteges also need to be able to become great in the first place. Imran couldn't take me and turn me into a Waqar Younis either.
