bihutoli
Forgive my ignorance but why was Sonia Gandhi so ticked off at PVNR? Hard to feel any special empathy for any congress leader, but this was quite a low blow.
G_B_
she saw him as an opportunistic after the death of Rajiv gandhi cashing in on the sympathy of R Gandhi's death to become PM. Plus she thought that he delayed in the probe of the death of rajiv gandhi at the heart of it all though i feel she just did not want another power centre in the congress. She waited for the congress to fail in the mid 90s and then swooped in. Sharad Pawar saw the writing on the wall and was smart enough to form his own party in maharashtra. Yes he would not be PM ever due to these actions but atleast he could stay revelent and make an attempt to build his own dynasty or sorts in maharashtra. You look at the descendants of sardar patel shastri or even mohandas gandhi , they have faded away. The entry of sonia gandhi into indian politics directly led to the creation of the ncp and the trinamool

Jitendra Prasad, Madhav Rao Scindhia, Rajesh Pilot were the no. 2 in Congress and could stop her becoming the center of congress and India. Co-incidence - all these people died unnatural deaths. The entry of sonia gandhi into indian politics directly led to the creation of the ncp and the trinamool IMO this was the only reason. She is an extremely insecure leader - this can be seen by how in the last 15-16 years under her leadership, there has never been a non-Gandhi no 2 in the party apart from Pranab Mukhejee. Also, Cong has miserably failed in producing strong regional leaders - something which was one of its biggest strengths. If any of Sanjay, Indira, Rajiv were living she could never think of becoming so powerful. At least is what "24 Akbar Road" a history of the Cong Party says - http://www.dnaindia.com/lifestyle/report-the-sitaram-kesri-case-how-dynasty-trumped-ethics-1564149

But after gaining some amount of political power, the leaders are forced to leave the party or accept being sidelined in favour of a lesser person. This Congress policy predates Sonia Gandhi, it is right there from the Indira Gandhi's time.

This Congress policy predates Sonia Gandhi, it is right there from the Indira Gandhi's time. Many leaders who came into National Prominence till the late 1990s used to be strong regional leaders in the Cong at some point - VP Singh, Sharad pawar, Hemvanti Nandan Bahuguna, ND Tiwari, Arjun Singh etc. Of course no regional leader/national leader/any kind of non-Gandhi leader from the Cong could get to the no 1 position in the party when there was a person with the Gandhi surname leading the party but at least many of them did become the no 2 earlier but now they can't even think about it. G_B_
The only major regional leader congress have produced since sonia took over has been YSR, or atleast he was allowed to grow. Even there she did not allow his son to take over for fear of him becoming the southern power of the congress. Had congress appointed YSR's son then they would be sitting pretty in AP. Just look at Uttarakhand. For feck sake that is a really small state. Your telling me Rawat was somehow going to mount a challenge to the Gandhis? You look at Sonia Gandhi and she still struggles with speeches. Rahul Gandhi to be fair can speak well. Its going to be interesting to see what will happen if Congress are thumped. Does Rahul step aside and Priyanka take over? Will there be civil war? I get a feeling priyanka at the moment is waiting for her kids to grow up. Once they reach 18 plus she will mount a challenge if Rahul cannot establish himself. Who knows Robert Vadra will die in an "accident"

Nah. Both of them dress well and talk in good English so they seem suave and sophisticated but they have no following among the masses. Scindhia was the face of the Cong campaign in MP in 2008 Assembly Elections, 2009 Lok Sabha and then the 2013 Assembly Elections - got beaten every time irrespective of the involvement/absence of Diggy/Kamnath etc.
