f.b.m Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Agreed. Look at how Dravid's test match batting nosedived after he learnt how to score quickly in ODIs.
Lord Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Pujara regularly rotates strike and punishes bad balls.Thats enough in ODIs,though looks bad in T20s As for T20 v Test,I enjoy both
Straight Drive Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Maxwell must be a torture for poor cheerleaders Yes, so much work because of him
Old guy Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Why would I worry about tests?? I would be very happy if Tests are scraped altogether and IPL is increased for 6 months. A sport which have less than 100 spectators regularly is not a sport. They are surviving because of T20s and ODIs and still people badmouth about limited over cricket. Without T20s and ODIs these pathetic tests would have been dead by now Once u tend to forget discussions in past I will not reply to u seriously but I already explained u why ipl won't survive without test or other international cricket and you had nothing in response And pathetic tests are still followed by millions and ipl and international t20 is completely different And no one bad mouths other inter national matches just pathetic ipl there is a difference ..also contrary to what you think millions follow tests and millions with job too you do not have to follow every ball it's interesting always that's the beauty of it you clearly do not understand strategies and game play in middle where entir session where on score spaced nothing much changes can be one of the best sessions For example pujara in his first tour of South Africa with layman just stood there and it was one of the best session I saw or just recent example of abdv vs Johnson there is nothing t20 can produce anywhere near to that quality you cannot chicken out and attack other bowlers you either bet the bet or get destroyed and that is reason many limited over greats cannot do anything in tests In short if you want highest quality of cricket that is the format ..obviously you do not understand this because you clearly do not watch it and concept of test can be boring that it is for 5 days but i can tell you no t20 I have seen not even tie matches that comes close to any match in ashes 2005 or recent innings Faf has played :--D
Old guy Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 And for jobless people. Let's face it. Who even has time to watch test matches ? Its the IPL and ODIs which generate revenue which enable boards to conduct test matches. Without revenue, players and boards will regularly fight because of salary issues and people will lose interest and cricket will die a definite death. Of course, Australia and England will continue to play Ashes which is a popular tournament there and has a lot of history associated with it but most fans in other countries dont have such craze for test cricket. Dont get carried away with a few vocal supporters on internet. Yeah Aussies only match ashes....that is bs Most grounds are always full during test season no matter who is playing and England just do not care for West Indies and teams like that otherwise even for India or any other big team grounds are full About generating revenue I do not understand how ipl generates revenue for ecb ..
SLICKR392 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Agreed. Look at how Dravid's test match batting nosedived after he learnt how to score quickly in ODIs. His Test batting never took a fall after started scoring quickly in LOIs. That's just a false statement.
DarthSimian Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Better he adapt to a format that gives more money and that which most of the fans watch. Why be a hero of few when you can be a hero of millions?
Lord Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 His Test batting never took a fall after started scoring quickly in LOIs. That's just a false statement. sarcasm detection failure:--D
DarthSimian Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 there is nothing t20 can produce anywhere near to that quality you cannot chicken out and attack other bowlers you either bet the bet or get destroyed and that is reason many limited over greats cannot do anything in tests In short if you want highest quality of cricket that is the format ..obviously you do not understand this because you clearly do not watch it and concept of test can be boring that it is for 5 days but i can tell you no t20 I have seen not even tie matches that comes close to any match in ashes 2005 or recent innings Faf has played :--D That is obviously a subjective opinion. I have seen several great plays in t20 and ODi, that still remains in memory but I don't see any memorable in test matches, probably some once in a blue moon day. Too slow for anything memorable to happen. I had more fun watching Gayle smashing 175* in 20 overs than anything I have seen in tests. I remember the edge of the seat thrill of watching India vs Pakistan in a T20 than any other moment in tests. But, as I said, your opinion differs from mine. But, trying to say it as a fact is absolutely nonsense.
kubrickian Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Yeah' date=' people with jobs don't follow Test cricket. WTF logic man![/quote'] I didnt say they dont follow test cricket. They dont get to watch test cricket because they have work to do in office. People who watch cricket in stadiums and watch cricket on tv generate most of the revenue, not people who check the scores online once in a while. Besides, I watch test cricket and I consider it to be the most superior form of cricket , way more than T20 which is just quick entertainment but I'm talking about the general perception of fans and general popularity of different formats. Watch any test match played outside Aus and Eng and you will see mostly empty stands.

Hope this isn't sarcasm. @Post- He took up cricket to play for his country, not to please please his fans in some circus league.
DarthSimian Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Hope this isn't sarcasm. @Post- He took up cricket to play for his country, not to please please his fans in some circus league. Why not do both? India T20 teams have probably much more fans than the test team. So, the point still stands

It's fact that quality of cricket is higher in test just ask gayle Entertaining that is ur taste that you like bowlers getting smashed in 20 overs Heck cricket is between bat and ball and in t20 one half of game is ignored by so called fans :giggle:

I don't care what Gayle's opinion is either. T20 needs a different skillset than test - doesn't mean one skillset is better than the other. It is just a different skillset. Which skillset you like is based on each one's opinion. Yeah, I like powers of batting display. Why not? You want to define my tastes?
CSK Fan Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Agreed. Look at how Dravid's test match batting nosedived after he learnt how to score quickly in ODIs. Dravid did that much later in his career, after his technique was solid. He was an extremely slow ODI player in his initial years Again, you want to check an opinion to turn it into a fact? There is a reason even the most perfect test player can sometimes slog (although maybe not as effectively as Maxwell) but the best slogger can never play a techniquely correct innings. Skills, shmills, slogging is plain looking at a ball and swinging, which even a 10 year old can perfect if he just practises that for a year.

This thread is a perfect example of someone who is skilled in test but cannot do well in T20s. Like I said the skillset is different. Many people have good skills in both format. Some are good in one but not in another. Like if you put Cook, Trott, Clarke etc in T20, they cannot perform well in that format at all. Doesn't mean they are bad cricketers, are they?

Who hits a ball for a six and then gets out. Maxwell is a hitter, who knows the field positions and can be able to place the ball accordingly. He also has power to hit sixes. He has defensive technique as well, but he doesn't like to play defensively in limited overs. He is a proper batsmen.
CG Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 But never see you guys fill the stadiums in Test matches :phehehe: Tesll me something and jama micha kahibani :--D Do you really watch full 5 days ever?? Can the tests survive without limited over games in today's world ??? Bhai if we play test in second tier cities like cuttack u will get good crowds in tests. We had great crowds in india in tests matches in 2001 ind-aus series in unbearable heat stadiums were full and the picture of glen mcgrath walking out to bat in front of a sea of fans is an image i can never forget and thats what got me in to test cricket.Offcourse u cannot watch 5 full days even odis its difficult to get time but nowadays u get live scores and streams. Also u get crowds in test centers like mumbai, bangalore, chennai, kolkatta as there is following form generations .
