vvvslaxman Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Pujara is not as naturallly talented strokemaker as Kohli. He is a hard worker with solid technique and temperament. Kohli can play 2 or 3 shots against same type of good delivery. Pujara does not belong to that category. He can put away bad balls. He is good in that area especially in tests. With fields spread he will struggle to do even that in ilmited overs.
undisputed chap Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 hotly contested test match still i think are most entertaining to watch. the types where there is no clear winner till the final session

Pujara can hold one end up in tough conditions unlike nohit and that is most important thing in next world cup.

f.b.m Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Dravid did that much later in his career' date=' after his technique was solid. He was an extremely slow ODI player in his initial years[/quote'] He has made 7800+ runs in FC cricket . If that doesn't cement his test match game, nothing will. This post pretty much shows the typical misuse of the words skill and technique.
Old guy Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Again, you want to check an opinion to turn it into a fact? I don't care what Gayle's opinion is either. T20 needs a different skillset than test - doesn't mean one skillset is better than the other. It is just a different skillset. Which skillset you like is based on each one's opinion. Yeah, I like powers of batting display. Why not? You want to define my tastes? That's not opinion but fact anyone who has played the game rates test high anyone who has seen steyn bowl to sachin both at top know there is nothing comparable to that in any other format Tests are harder and ultimate form of cricket and require more skills ..no one is called great unless he does well in tests just look at yuvi or Raina ..
Old guy Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 This thread is a perfect example of someone who is skilled in test but cannot do well in T20s. Like I said the skillset is different. Many people have good skills in both format. Some are good in one but not in another. Like if you put Cook' date=' Trott, Clarke etc in T20, they cannot perform well in that format at all. Doesn't mean they are bad cricketers, are they?[/quote'] No because they are good in format which matters No one gives a crap about Clarke being bad in t20 or sangakarra but no one rates Raina No one calls odi specialist the greats of game
putrevus Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Where is the evidence that he can rotate strike ? Dont just go by your assumptions. I am not assuming, compare their list A stats and also in tests Pujara has shown ability to rotate strike and build partnerships. He can hold one end up without hurting the run rate, He is not perfect but I feel he is better choice than nohit especially away from home . Rohit has every shot in book but he is too loose and other than one series on the most flattest pitches he has been very very spotty. If it is between Pujara and nohit, I would go with Pujara.Nohit has been given so many chances and Pujara has not been given any chances to prove himself. Your view might be different it is fine with me.

If Uthappa finds some form he can replace Rohit. Otherwise we don't have many choices at our disposal besides Gauti, Viru.

Pujara is a classy test batsman no doubt. He could possibly go on and become one of the best in the world but I think he is a misfit in limited overs. Same with Rahane. In ODIs they have more time to play themselves in and score around 70 Strike rate but what happens when the situation demands that you have to accelerate and score big shots while chasing ? I dont think they are cut out for the job.

In odis you have time to catch up and also building partnerships and holding one end up especially against two new balls is vital. I don't think they have many choices as we saw in both odis series SA and NZ other than Kohli and Dhoni , none of them even looked like they belong.

That's because those pitches had pace and bounce and inexperienced batsmen need some time to get used to those conditions to do well. Nobody has a magic wand to automatically bat well in those conditions when you bat your whole life on pitches which have slow pace and low bounce.

Pujara unlike other domestic batsmen who have high domestic averages has shown his domestic average is not built on flat wickets alone. He has proved that he can play in tests. Thats why I took his List A stats if he can replicate 75% of those stats India has got nice opener.
PBN Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 The idea is to catch a session of Test Cricket here and there. I think that's what most people do anyways atleast when it is live. A session of Test Cricket is only about 2 hours on average. Or you can record it and fast forward through all the breaks :P
Sidhoni Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Why even have a debate? Tests are the real deal, the way cricket was meant to be. I would rate ODIs above T20s as well.

Raina too played in both places.

Kohli is a class apart and he is the best in the world. Very few batsmen can match him and if you compare his scores, everyone else will look worse in comparison.

The only comparison I am making is between Nohit and Pujara as openers not for place in the team keep that in mind. I feel Pujara as opener will be a better bet than nohit who is a proven failure away from home.
veer Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I am worried about the same.. . We dont have many sound test match batters.. Pujara i hope doesnt go in self destructing path.

For people like me and most of the cricket fans, ODI or T20 is the one that matters. There are a few minority for whom test matters. As simple as that.
