I guess Sachin played the hook shot more often than pull didn't he? That was mostly coz of his short height...

Man Sachin has played all the shots of the cricket book. Isn't he? A proper hook shot should go towards deep fine leg boundary and a proper pull shot must go towards mid wicket. Sachin's most of the shots went towards mid wicket. While playing hook shot your body should rotate fully having balance on one leg and also it should be inclined to certain angle as the ball is on your face. While playing pull shot your body should be straight and balance on both legs. Most of the sachin's backfoot shot were balanced on both of his legs and he played without inclining his body. For both of the shots your right foot should be on off stump. Sachin Tendulkar's foot work is perfect for backfot shots :two_thumbs_up:

Agree about the bold part. And you are right, he has played the pull shot on numerous occasions and perfectly at that. One that I distinctly recall right now is the one he played against Donald at Durban in 96 finals. That was some shot! Infact your description has been as immaculate as the way Sachin played it. :two_thumbs_up:

Going after short pitch bowling too often is a technical weakness, not a strength. The good batsman with good temperament will pick and choose the short balls he wants to put away, and will not indiscriminately attack. Gavaskar, SRT and Dravid were quite choosy about which short ones they would attack, which is one of the reasons they were all far better batsmen compared to Inzy or Aravinda.

They are the best ever players of short bowling from sub continent. SRTs, dravids and Gavaskar's were better batsmen because they had all round ability with their techniques. Similarly, sidhu and Shewag were best players of spin from SC, but no one compares them with the best of the generation. I do agree that players need to be choosy taking on short balls. Having said that Aravinda didn't hook or pull everything/. He did choose what to pull and hook. But his first line was to attack while first line for gavaskar, SRt and dravid were to defend ot get out of the way. Aravinda played fastest bowlers of the entire test history. No one had balls to give him a bouncer barrage. Few like Merv Hughes and Imran Khan had tried and were taken to the cleaners by him. Shoaib, Lee, Ambrose, Walsh, Bishop, Donald, Schultz, Wasim, Waqar and Srinath came and went. None had the balls to ball him a spell of short balling. That it self is a testimony to his ability to take on short stuff.

I gotta agree Aravinda was good. From Indian line up Mohinder was the best, Kapil was very good too. But he would play like natraja. Tendulkar was good in the 90s.. he would even run down and pull the ball. Aravinda used the depth of the crease very well. When it comes to controlled, safe pull Dravid is the best i have seen from subcontinent. Kohli is getting there.

Gavaskar most of the time played second string West Indian [ace bowlers. He played the full quartet/trio over two series IIRC. There was a good article on this by Swarnjeet Singh. Doing great against WI doesn't mean the batsman is good at hooking pulling. It shows the player is very good in playing short bowling. And the above two statements doesn't mean the same thing. NS Sidhu was the best player of spin in this era. Andly Flower was not far behind. But they played it entirely differently. Although Sidhu was better at using his feet, Flower was light years ahead with his sweeps and reverse sweeps. That doesn't make Sidhu the best sweeper.
