StriKe Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 The IPL has stood down umpire Sanjay Hazare from the match officials panel for the rest of the tournament. There has been no specific reason provided for the decision, but Hazare had erroneously shot down a run-out appeal against Kevin Pietersen without referring to the third umpire when Delhi Daredevils hosted Rajasthan Royals on May 3. The batsman was out of his crease. IPL chairman Ranjib Biswal indicated there was a strong case for Hazare's removal. "He has been removed. There are many reasons," Biswal told ESPNcricinfo. It is understood that the message was communicated to Hazare by BCCI operations manager MV Sridhar. In the seventh over, Pietersen was sent back when he sought a leg bye and wicketkeeper Sanju Samson found his target. TV replays clearly showed the Daredevils captain was well short of his ground, but astonishingly Hazare, who was standing at square leg, turned down the appeal. Both Shane Watson, Royals' captain, and Rajat Bhatia, the bowler, were told by Hazare that Pietersen had reached the safety of his crease. "I was confident that he made his ground," Hazare told ESPNcricinfo. "I was very clear about that. And hence I did not refer to the third umpire." It could not be confirmed whether Royals had lodged a complaint. According to Hazare he was asked by the match referee about the incident later. "I told him the same thing," he said. "It was a human error. Once I had made the decision I could not correct it." Hazare later officiated as the third umpire when Mumbai Indians faced Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium. That, it turned out, was his last game in the tournament.
yoda Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 What about the chump who gave McCullum leg beforeoff a ball well missing the leg and not giving Jadeja for one which was clearly hitting the leg. That ump needs to be gone ASAP. He is simply not able to see LBWs in real time.

They might not be as good as their colleagues from other countries. But this is no way to treat a mistake. Shakoor Rana was supported by his board, Darrell Hair by his and Steve Bucknor by his board. And we respond with appeasement. The response to a mistake is not humiliation. The response is talking behind closed doors and training them well.

The OP also says there were other reasons. Wonder what that is. Also, these guys have been making endless blunders. Its more of an embarresment for India if they are persisted with.

I think our Board chose the easier option, by deciding to appease. If we are consistently producing poor umpires, we need to take a closer look at our system. No one likes being hated and reprimanded publicly. I agree, the umpire made a major goof-up, but don't humiliate him this way. He's a human being.

Aleem dar gave Stuart broad not out when whole stadium knew he was out. no umpire can be perfect they make mistakes it happens, going to third umpire is not natural as it is not available in local matches so his reaction was the one he is so used to, IE making all the decisions by himself no need to crucify for one mistake.

But lets look at the bigger point, i.e., his track record. If a serial offender can be given a let-off, why not Hazare?
