yes' date=' pitch looked totally different when SA pace bowlers were bowling..shows the quality of Indian pace bowlers.[/quote'] Only when Steyn bowled. Steyn put a lot of effort there. You cannot compare our bowlers to Steyn when he is on song and he got big reverse swing. Same Steyn and SA bowling looked ineffective at Wanderers which had more in it for pacers.

Indian team overseas record is very poor under Dhoni captaincy. What do you think is the main reason for this losses
Everyone except Indian fans knew our test middle order was well past its expire date, openers were also struggling (old players also made cr-p fielders) add rookie bowlers and we had a disaster called test series in aus and eng. SA and NZ series were competitive and if they were 4 match test series like the aus and eng ones i am sure we would have won a game.

All three of them were hitting the deck hard..IIRC Morkel did not bowl in the second innings at the Wanderers, otherwise they would have won that test match too.

Not really. Our new batting line did pretty well both in SA and NZ' date=' but bowling could not take 20 wickets as we ere playing with effectively 3 bowlers.[/quote'] In a test match captaincy is critical, Dhoni let us down all thru his career, its not about bowlers but the faith shown in bowlers, how can u play Jadeja , Ashwin, have them open with new ball, ignore Umesh other promising bowlers, not have slips, test matches is not about saving runs but taking wkts and bowler is dependent on captain to support and give him enough space and support and right approach. Ian Chappel, Hussain any one is slight cerebral knows why we are bad as a test team but simply don't have the guts to say or make changes, Amarnath tried to do the right thing but was kicked out.

Good first innings does not mean he will be that good in 2nd too that is all assumption.

Even, in first innings, we scored more than them when the pitch was at its best to help seamers. Could you believe that we will have lead or SA after 1st innings. You cannot guess anything. It is cricket. Morkel might have an effect or might not, but to what extent it could affect our batting is what cannot guess.

Dhoni's tactics were really good in the first test in SA. But then he "realized" that he was attacking too much (he actually told this to the media) and went back to his usual self.

For me it's the collective effort was missing either batting is good or bowling is good. They need to do better bowling, batting and fielding as a collective effort. This for me is the cause. At home you can drop few catches and still win because spinners will create chances but in tours our bowlers don't create as many chances as at home.

The richest board in the world with the most powerful captain, yet no strategy to groom or improve fast bowlers, instead play 2 spinners overseas and then use pace bowling as an excuse

Still don't understand if it is the work ethic of our bowlers or what. We have many great bowlers working in India but no one has a plan on what is wrong and how to fix it.

Come, let's not play dumb here. Our captain clearly uses our fast bowlers as a secondary, defensive resort. Even overseas, we have the initial overs with the fast bowlers and you will see generally at this point both teams are more or less evenly stacked (it is a different thing that some of our recent top order batsmen have been like fish out of water). But post that, while other teams continue with their fast bowlers as attacking options (the likes of Steyn, Morkel etc take bucket loads of wicket in the later stages), our captain goes to our spinners and uses fast bowlers for rotating and a defensive option. He gives them one side of the pitch to bowl at or asks them to bowl a certain area only. This will definitely restrict the bowler Do remember, all of our fast bowler (except Ishant) are very new and learning the ropes. When you use them in sporadic spells and as a defensive option, that is what they are going to learn. They shine in the first one or two series and then become like everyone else. And do remember, some bowlers do come with a bang but they lose their way in international (and not domestic) cricket. The great bowlers working in India mostly work with talent before they are introduced to international. Once in international, it is up to the captain on how to use them IMO, our captaincy goes a long way towards why our fast bowlers lose their ways. This is very clear in recent times, when the ones who usually get the chop are the ones who try to bowl all out and take wickets. The ones who get the long run are the ones who bowl within themselves and try to contain batsmen. Even out and out swing bowlers like BK have clearly moved from trying to take maximum wickets to giving least runs. There is a clear preference of the captain for containing bowlers and this is evident when you look at the IPL where other teams have great fast bowlers while the CSK team is full of exactly the kind of bowlers who are given a long rope in the Indian team.A really sad prospect.

It is the lack of fifth bowler who could bowl good enough. India to win a test overseas needs a spinner who could pick up atleast couple of wickets per innings along with part timers who can bowl 10 overs in a day and give rest to our trundlers who simply run out of gas. We blame bowlers but they are so tired after tea being bowled to death already, if one of fast bowler is expensive captain has no option but still to bowl him. That 6 to 10 overs by fifth bowler are so important in giving the main bowlers rest and them being effective at the end of the day. Look at Srilanka Herath has been negated and they even have Mathews who under bowled himself and that has put more undue pressure on young fast bowlers who are not good to begin with. We dont even have Mathews and I dont think both Asswin or jadeja will do better job than Herath.so first how are you completing 90 overs per day for five tests while batting our batsmen dont even last long enough to give the bowlers rest.

any of our 6 batsmen is not good enough to bowl 10 decent overs. it won't be a bad idea to bring in someone who can bowl decent 10 overs and bat in the top 6. primary criteria should be good enough to bat in top 6 but can roll over the arm for few overs. binnys first class average is only 35. certainly not good enough to bat in top 6. any other guy with 45+ first class batting average and bowl gentle medium in domestic circuit? this is one of our main problem apart from finding a spinner who can get wickets in overseas conditions.

I agree dhoni is not good for fast bowlers as a captain. Even when ganguly was captain there was not much difference our fast bowlers were not that great. They moments of brilliance followed by crapppy performances. Someone posted averages of zak and nehra during ganguly period they were not great.
