Others have the advantage on bowling in better conditions. So much for saying Anderson is better than steyn and rolling out flat wickets

English conditions supporting pacers thing is overrated as this depends on weather. If weather is good, they become the flattest pitches.
Temujin Khaghan Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Prasad, Pradeep and Eranga all got movement off the pitch with their seam bowling. kulasekara was the lone swing bowler who was not played in the 2nd match. wish we had a seam bowler too. anderson, plunkett, jordon and broad all depend on movement in the air and they couldnt get their lengths right to counter matthews and the tail in the 2nd innings, which was the turning point of the match.

That said for England Plunkett looked the most threatening. So what will be more vital, swing, accuracy or pace?! Ideally its a combination of all 3 I know but no Indian combines all this. For me BK and Shami will be vital. BK especially, considering Praveen did most damage for India the last time round. I also hope Pankaj Singh makes most of his chance. Wait and watch I presume!!None of the Sri Lankan bowlers bar Kule an Mathews were trundlers. Prasad bowled around 82mph, but did get up to 88mph. He has got up to 93mph. Eranga usually gets up around 87-88mph. Touched 90mph in the past. Pradeep was the fastest, but his top speed was lesser than Eranga or Prasad on fire. All of them bowl very sharp bouncers with extra effort.

Yes 2nd test magnificent win. Buts let not rewrite cricket tactics based on it. This is the first away test series since 2000 excluding zimb and bangla trips. So lets not get too carried away. Also bear in mind that playing against a very inexperienced batting line up Root/Balance/Robson and Ali, that's 4 out of top 6 with little experience, poor planning by england. Also they did at times bowl with some wheels. Shame it was only 2 test series. Another test now would be awesome

Any bowler , who can bowl good bouncers and normally bowls between 130 to 140 k, is not a trundler ( medium pacer ) but fast medium. Most international pacers fall in this category. Unfortunately, any pacer who does not bowl 140 + consistently is dubbed a trundler in this forum. This is wrong classification. There is very little recognition of effective bounce or fast-medium pace in this forum.

singhprakash72 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Swing with decent pace (~135 KPH) is key to the success...Roger Binny is classic example of success in '83 WC and 86' test series. The other factor is catching and field placement ...if you look at footage of '86 series you had slip cordon and gully area fully loaded. Even SL struggled in 5th day to take last 5 wkts primarily due to defensive field and it was only in last 15-20 overs they deployed a attacking field. A good spinner only adds to strength bowling attack like Kumble supported Zak & co in 2007.

I think for Pishant and co it will be more of a mental block than skills (plus Dhoni's approach)...SL bowlers came without any luggage and being underdog helped them immensely. Case in point is Dhammika Prasad, the dude has 50+ bowling avg and was expected to do nothing big which probably helped him. Also people forget the two balls could have made this series 1-0 in England's favor, so SL was not exactly steamrolling through England (except on 4th day of 2nd test). A good 1st test and we could still see 4-0 or 5-0 scoreline in England's favor.
