pakexpress Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 given how often your middle order fails .. his runs are more important than they would be in other teams. Are there young keepers demanding inclusion in Pak who are also handy bats? With Kamran it is typically feast or famine batting wise ... scores centuries but also scores a lot of pretty 10-20s S Ahmed who was just in Aus with A team and avg 60 there. He was there with Umar Akmal ..Akmal avg 83 and was called in the senior team..S Ahemd has been with pak team but he never gets a chance..Played in pak warm up in NZ, score 41 i believe and was sent back home.. regardless, like i said its not like he avg 50 in test, if he is going be the kind of wk he is then we will be better off with Younus khan who at least at worst is a better bat
sm332 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 hey i dont know how you can continue to carry Akmal as a keeper .. if his batting is viewed as being that good then why not play him as a batsman given that Misbah is basically done. You need batting replacements for 1,2,3,6,7 ... wow your batting sucks!!
Temujin Khaghan Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Even by today's keeping standards, Akmal is incompetent 52.6 Danish Kaneria to Hussey, no run, trying playing defensively from the crease, Hussey's beaten by a ball that rips past the outside edge of his upright bat Subsquent replays suggest this may have been a dropped catch by Kamran Akmal. If it was it only got the faintest edge from Hussey's bat. 62.2 Danish Kaneria to Hussey, no run, dropped, defensively forward, inside edge onto pad, through to the keeper who spills it 66.4 Danish Kaneria to Hussey, no run, dropped, pushing at a ball outside off, a thick outside edge is split by the wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal 113.2 Mohammad Sami to Siddle, 1 run, dropped, short ball down leg, Siddle swishes at it, gloves it but it's dropped by the keeper to his left, should have taken it, the ball runs away for a single ==================== its no secret that keepers thesedays are under pressure to deliver with the bat just as a specialist batsman does. so probably they need to divide thier time between both batting and keeping. But still batsmen like boucher and mccullum do a good job, dhoni and sanga are superb ( they are the captains of thier respective teams) and gilchrist, the guy who brought on this new batting headache to the keepers all over the world was brilliant. Kamran akmal is a decent batsman no doubt. But his keeping is atrocious. Iam sure kaneria would have taken a lot more wickets if not for him and pakistan would have easily won this match.
sangrock Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Yousuf backs Kamran despite drops Kamran Akmal has received solid backing from his captain, despite spilling three chances as Pakistan pushed for a rare Test win against Australia in the second Test at Sydney. Akmal had a horror day three at the SCG, dropping Michael Hussey three times off Danish Kaneria. Hussey led the Australian resistance, completing a hundred on day four. Akmal also missed a run-out chance earlier in the day. But Yousuf said dropping Akmal was unthinkable, for the batting strength that he provided the order. "Things like this happen in cricket," Yousuf said. "Kamran is always trying his best. You tell me, how can we afford to give him a rest? He is such a good batsman. He scored well in New Zealand and we need him here." Until Tuesday Akmal had had a relatively tidy time behind the stumps since 2009, and considerably improved from the dip in form he suffered between 2006 and 2008. He was dropped for the Asia Cup in 2008, replaced by Sarfraz Ahmed, but his batting has always kept the door open for him. "The best thing to do is to back your players when the going gets tough," Yousuf said. "Look at Ricky Ponting. He is getting support from every quarter even when he is not scoring many runs or on the toss decision." Despite Akmal's fluffs, Pakistan ended the third day in a strong position with the possibility of chasing a low total for a first Test win in and against Australia since 1995-96. "It only ends when it ends," Yousuf said. "When a team like Australia is involved you can't predict anything. It would be great to finally win a Test against Australia." http://www.cricinfo.com/ausvpak09/content/current/story/442638.html If that is the case then ask Sharfaraz Ahmed/someone to keep, drop Misbah and play Khatmal as a batsman
Sooda Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 There was a chappy called Zulqarnain Haider who played in the U19 WC a few years ago- 04/05 maybe and was supposed to be ok. Not sure who else is there
The Outsider Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 In addition to the drops, the manner in which he did not break the stumps earlier in the innings against Watson for a run out was just horrible. Poyyzzz are legendary :adore:
Anakin Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I think he's too worried about getting outshined by his own younger bro
Jadoo Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 "Caught it.............o sh*t............thats my bloody head"
coffee_rules Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I feel sorry for him. I think Pak needs his batting more than catching. Karachi 06, remember.
PotterManiac Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Parthiv & I sat together and practised catching flies and mosquitoes for hours. :haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha:
