But Cook's wicket and may be an other one would give us a boost going into Lord's whereas England getting 20 wickets will raise their morale. There is absolutely no gain by batting throughout this day.

At the time we were calling for the declaration, there were about 40 overs of cricket to be played. Obviously now it would have little impact, but a few early wickets would have put the Poms under pressure.
