Lets assume Holding was 145+ kmph bowler and batters always said Jeff was way faster then he should have been 150 kmph. So theoretically he may have gone pass 155 kmph. Speedometers are funny some time say if Bowler like Bhuvi clocks 150 kmph broadcaster or who ever will tell there was a glitch, but if bowler like Wood may bowl 160 kmph there will be no clarfication. Sami (Pak intnl) bowled few clocking 163 kmph but those were not recognized, he tells this v.often. He was express at one point in time matching Akthar in term of pace. During one tour Ind batters were telling Sami feels faster.

BD has 2/3 more quicks Nahid Rana played in BPL and then there was another left arm fast. Even though they are spin heavy side and perfer rank turners at home, they manage to find some good quicks. Murtaza, Taskin, Ruber, Mustafiz etc.

I imagine that thompson did, based on my own viewing. moreover, he was the one people said was by far the fastest -- a freak even compared to WI pacers. so I would think that he was hitting close to 160 at his very peak. of course, I don't buy the rubbish that he was bowling 170 as rod marsh, etc claimed. or that mohd zahid was bowling 170 as PeePee claimed Rightarmfast 1

Jeff would have been in same range.

Tanzim looks the best to me among their newer ones, his style of bowling is suited for asian conditions, can bat as well so quite a good option .

Jeff Thomson clocked 160, Andy Roberts 159, Lilee 155 Suddenly 3 years down the line in 1979..Thomson was 148, Roberts 138 & Lilee 136. Doesn't seems correct to me. If we average out the 2 extremes..Thomson's peak pace can be at 154, Roberts at 148 & Lilee at 145..it seems more accurate. Edited November 7, 2023 by singhvivek141

Yes he was fast, but 160, I just dont think so. I actually though Andy Roberts bowled faster. He was clocked at 159

Thomson was not at his quickest then and clocked 147 k+. At his peak he probably clocked early 150s, which is freakishly quick for that era. Holding was clocking 141 k in the 1979 test. Quickest balls are often bowled in later spells, so he would probably have gone up to the mid 140s.. In that era of no helmets / poor helmets, poor bats, below par protective gears, no practice against bowling machines and slingers with artificial arms etc .... any pacer bowling 135 k to 145 k with steep bounce would feel express. SRT100 Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 One important point to note, it makes Gavaskar's record vs WI and Australia all that more impressive. He faced genuine terrifying deliveries from fast bowlers. express bowling 1

Rightarmfast Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 Like express bowling said, without any safety gears even a 135k bowler can be menacing. While Jeff Thompson would have been a 155-158k's bowler, I doubt all the WI bowlers were hitting 155. But their height and bounce would be very discomforting. Batsmen perceive pace differently. Wasim at 140'sh was more discomforting than say a Srinath bowling 147ish. Loads of dynamics at play, the height, release, angle, bounce. So, without a proper speedgun, I am not sure how much a batsman would have perceived their pace. @Vijy @tapandrun, Pakistanis used to say that Zahid was faster than Shoaib. However, Zahid bowled against a weaker Indian team on a dangerous pitch in Canada in Sahara cup. The Indian batsmen never looked uncomfortable facing him on such a venomous pitch. So, I really am not sure how fast he was. singhvivek141, express bowling, Vijy and 1 other 4

Yup, and that's why I have no issues if someone says that Thomson can clock early to mid 150's... Problem is this fascinating where he is portrayed as 160kph bowler which he isn't tbh...Wood bowls 155 and his deliveries look genuinely fast...Thomson on Tv looks no more than 145-147. Marshal was another one who seemed very quick...somewhere at 148-151 kph peak pace. He was the fastest of all Windies bowlers. Joel Garner seemed slowest, but it was his height which made him a menace. Edited November 7, 2023 by singhvivek141 express bowling 1
