I have been seeing few matches of late and getting the feeling that quality has gone down a bit when compared to 10 - 15 yrs back .... esp batsmen-ship ..... Cant see anybody as flamboyant and special like tendulakars , laras, pontings ..... and teams are picking bits and pieces players like jadeja , stokes, binny's etc etc

renjith Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 overall quality has gone down a lot. it has more to do with the decline of WI and Pak. From a neutral point of view only 2 teams worth watching test cricket are aus and sa.

Windies have been sucking since 2000, Pakistan are always inconsistent and South African & Australia were always the teams to watch in 00. Only difference is that India is inept, NZ are under the radar, England is in dire mess...it's basically the late 90's, early 2000's all over again.

Only difference is that India is inept, NZ are under the radar, England is in dire mess...it's basically the late 90's, early 2000's all over again. even though pak has always been inconsistent, they used to produce world class players from nowhere. that is not happening now. last one was amir. for test cricket to survive, at least 5-6 nations should have high quality teams. need players of the skill level of sachin, lara, warne, akram, ... nobody will want to waste 5 days if 22 average players are fighting it out to prove who is more mediocre.

Ponting was not really compared with Tendulkar and Lara till he crossed 30 centuries or thereabouts. There are quite a few test stars like Steyn, Johnson, Clark, ABDV, Sangakara, Jayawardhane etc. Rising stars like Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Philander. etc. Don't forget that many teams like India are in a rebuilding phase where most established players have retired.

Number Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Quality of bowling which ultimately dictates the quality of the game was probably the best in 90s, with almost every team having a pair of match-winning bowlers, like Walsh-Ambrose, Donald-Pollock, Wasim-Waqar, McGrath-Warne. It has gone down a lot since then, when you have just one bowler of that quality Steyn that's all. Hopefully in the coming years we will see a lot of young bowlers developing.
Vilander Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Anderson,MJ,Morkel,now Bhuv all are good and will eventually be as good as previous era bowlers. When Akram and Waqar started i am sure they were not as good as when they were in their peak.

Utalk Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Apart from Styen not a single sub 25 test fast bowler. No leg spinner to speak off. One world class off spinner with questionable action. Not a single batsman in Lara or Tendulkars class despite the stats.

Yep, was listing out sub-25/close to 25 avg pairs. cricket has changed a lot also i cannot comment about 90's much but test cricket is lot more fun today compared to 2000's I agree, in late 2000s it was seriously average. From last 2-3 years we are getting more results at least. Only thing is in most of the series one team dominates.
