Old guy Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 It might have stopped him form bowling but does not relate to him being out of shape. i do not think he is that out of shape ..i have seen zaheer being out of shape and this is nothing close to it he just did not looked in rhythm to me and was short of match practice anyway it looks like he is getting better and with long gap between test i am sure he will be fully ft and ready for next match

He might get fitter. OTT, I never said drop Shami for Aaron, but instead replace Binny. He can bowl short spells at pace which Binny did not do.

Its not as if he's going to bowl 95 mph in the tests, he will at best be around the 85-86 mph mark, around the same as Ishant. Given propensity for short and wide bowling, could be a totally wrong move. Better to get in someone like Pankaj who will get natural bounce due to his height. . Test cricket is easier format for fast bowlers than ODIs to settle and get confidence, IMO, especially when playing overseas like SA and England. A bit of waywardness does not hurt you that much and you can express yourself, but ODIs played on pattas with current rules and 2 new balls can destroy a bowler.

It is not like he cannot play and do well in these conditions, but I thought those guys can be better than him as he lacks experience too.

Resting him is only going to make him rusty like he himself claims to be when he takes a break.

Likes of Pankaj and Pandey both are capable of doing as good as he did in this series till now.[/quote'] ofc but we all know "till now "was major under performance and now we even know the reasons to me he is easily better and more complete bowler than both pankaj and pandey and dropping him here when he is about to bowl at his best would have done lot of wrong to his confidence also keep in mind how young these guys are and finally they get some experience and also remember how pattinson looked worse than shami .. i even said that if he is really injured its another thing but other than that he deserves more chances specially after winning ..yeah if we lost i can understand dropping some one even if its not good for him personally but right now there is no reason and there is nothing about pandey or pankaj which tells us that they will be better bowlers than shami so i will back one with most potential

I hope selectors look at Karan Sharma. We need a leg spinner overseas. Overseas, spinners do not get much turn from main area of the pitches, but from rough and that is where a leg spinners comes into play.

Thank god selectors thought differently in those instances at least and we won the first test at Lords after decades? and first test overseas after 13 matches ?Shami too should be persisted with. imo the first choice bowling attack has done really well given the surfaces which they have bowled on and the results we have got so far. The second choice bowlers (Varun, Pankaj, Pandey) have to wait unless there is injury before third test or planned rotation. The third choice bowling attack (Umesh,Jasprit) need to wait for their turn as well given how the first choice bowlers are performing overall.

The third choice bowling attack (Umesh,Jasprit) need to wait for their turn as well given how the first choice bowlers are performing overall. agree with everything but umesh should be in squad . he is not third choice but one of the rarest type of bowler we have who has pace and movement with both old and new ball he should have ideally been in squad in place of one 2nd choice bowler pandey and pankaj are awfully similar and have no reason for both of them being in squad anyway
