Rotating Potato Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 He has the technique. . He has the temperament. . He's a very aggressive batsman as well. . And miles better than our current opener no 2. . What do you guys say?
sachin34357 Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 should try him as an opener in the 5th test match
vvvslaxman Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I think we have to go back to Dhawan. Saw Gambhir . I have never seen Gambhir playing this insecure in his entire career. I think he is done.
zep1706 Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Won't work. But I feel he is good enough to play as #6. If he can do that it would allow an extra bowler.
sensible-indian Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Would get out. Why waste him at an opener spot when you could use him well in No 7. Open with Chepu and Vijay. Anyway they were practically opening the whole series.
Cricashfaq Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 How about Rahane as opener? No, please dont make Rahane an opener. He is someone we need in the middle-order as he opts to the game's situation and plays.

Anyway they were practically opening the whole series. if Chepu fails open with Kohli and VIjay. If Kohli fails open with Dhoni and Vijay lol. Dravid was an exception. Even then he should not have compromised. We should just leave it to specialists. Most of the teams don't have their best batsman opening the innings. I would prefer a specialist .
maniac Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Doesn't have the technique in these conditions but he can bat up to as high as No 5

But what option do we have now with Dhawan and Gambhir being walking wickets? Anyway Pujara is opening. Might as well bring in some guy like Binny to strengthen the middle order (where Kohli has been a no show).

May be these delhi boys don't know where their off stump is.
sensible-indian Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Dhawan is slightly better than him. May be these delhi boys don't know where their off stump is. That's the point. Not saying Pujara must open from hereon. Just the next test.
bowl_out Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Why waste Ashwin at the top. Sure he can play good shots, but not sure if he has the patiencec to handle the swinging ball. I'd open with Pujara (he comes in within 5 overs anyway), and play Ashwin at 6 ahead of Dhoni. Ashwin loses out on partners most of the time. Playing him at 6 will ensure he gets sufficient time and reasonable more support at the other end
FreakazoiD Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I think Ashwin is better at no.7. Get Dhawan back and hope that we're not batting first on a green pitch on day 1. Unlike GG, if Dhawan gets through the first 15 overs unscathed, he can score big and at a good pace.
sensible-indian Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I think I would have Binny (for his batting) in the team instead of an opener and make Chepu open. With Kohli being a walking wicket, we need a proper batsman. Not another walking wicket in the form of an opener.
Yoda-esque Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Get all your best batters up the order ,so open with Ashwin and pujara, followed by Rahane and Dhoni ,and then Kohli and dhawan
adi B Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Won't work. But I feel he is good enough to play as #6. If he can do that it would allow an extra bowler. Absolutely.he's a bit like laxman,we almost ruined laxman by playing him as an opener.no need to open ashwin against the new ball,he can be a valuable #6 before dhoni and score some crucial runs
