rkt.india Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Part time bowler and 5th bowler are the same thing' date=' since we lack quality there.[/quote'] Ashwin is as good a batsman as any backup batsman we have. Though, agree that we first need to fix first 4 bowlers and only then worry about 5th and 5th bowler isnt going to do much if we keep getting out below 200, like last innings.
vishalvirsingh Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Vijay Dhawan Pujara Rahane Rohit Binny Dhoni Ashwin Kumar Ishant Aaron I would get shikhar for gg, Ishan't for pankaj, Shammi for jaddu. Play KohlI at 5 not at 4...
bowl_out Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 vijay ojha pujara rahane rohit / dhawan (wouldnt mind trying him in the middle order) ashwin dhoni binny bhuvi / umesh (if available) aaron ishant Rest Kohli for a match Hope I've seen the last of Gambhir and Jadeja in tests
renjith Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 4th test we actually played the best possible team. so team selection is not a problem. we can even play with the same team. how the selcted ones play is just wat matters. board will not play next match. so if we stop gifting wickets to moen ali, we can compete.
Gunner Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Have to go in with 5 bowlers on a flat Oval surface: Umesh Aaron Bhuvi Ashwin Jadeja
King Tendulkar Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Jadeja is not good enough for tests Axe him and never pick him again Oijha and specialist spinners need to come in for the future
King Tendulkar Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 After being blown away in one session are we really saying need only 5 batsman Don't care who the 6th batsman is, does not have to be rohit by the way to implement 6 bats Need 6 bats, ashwin 7 and a keeper 8 You can only have 5 bats if have world class proven 5 top bats, a world class top genuine keeper/bat and a genuine top class genuine all rounder. We have none of these Our batting is super flaky. Dhoni at 6 was always a disaster waiting to happen as I always said, guess what, losing in 3 days was this accident waiting to happen as I ALWAYS said
someone Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Though' date=' agree that we first need to fix first 4 bowlers and only then worry about 5th and 5th bowler isnt going to do much if we keep getting out below 200, like last innings.[/quote'] Yep, that's my point. Batting is the main and first issue to address, forget bowling issues. As we really don't have the quality bowlers. It was our batting and high 1st innings scores, which made our bowling look threatening providing the added pressure to the opposition.
NareshK Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 India have to go with 5 bowlers. 6th batsman is not going to solve batting problems. The top 5 batsmen have to put runs on the board. If they fail, little chance that 6th batsman will add anything especially when its Rohit who is vulnerable in these conditions. In any case, we have Ashwin, Dhoni, Jaddu, Bhuvi to make up for 6th batsman. Ishant should come in for Pankaj. Dhawan for Gambhir, though I doubt he will be dropped after 1 game. Rest should be the same team.

[/quote'] What's the use of a 5th bowler when he first doesn't have the quality and next, more importantly won't get substantial overs to bowl. When Moren Ali, a part time spinner has done better than our frontline bowlers, it should be clear that just adding more bowlers won't make our team better. A part time spinner can do enough job as the 5th bowler.

Lord Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Have to go in with 5 bowlers on a flat Oval surface: Umesh Aaron Bhuvi Ashwin Jadeja would rather have Pankaj/Pandey/Ishant for Jaddu

There is a high probability he will get out without adding much which means he will just be a passenger. Rohit won't survive too long if there is swing. His technique is flawed.

NareshK Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Ashwin is good enough for 5th bowler and can do the same job as extra batsman would.Play him and 4 pacers.3 is not enough 4 seamers on a flat, dry surface at Oval ? We also played 2 spinners on an Old Trafford surface which had pace and bounce. This is called not selecting team based on conditions.

NareshK Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Play 2 batsman then if we follow this line of thinking We have Ashwin now who is a good batsman at 6. Why do we need Rohit ? Better to go with extra spinner on a dry surface.

There is a high probability he will get out without adding much which means he will just be a passenger. Rohit won't survive too long if there is swing. His technique is flawed. At least, the 6th batsman will get full opportunity to play. Whereas the 5th bowler won't even be put in full use in bowling. His quota can easily be taken by a part time bowler. As written above, when Moeen Ali as a part time spinner has brought chaos in the team, while our spinners have done nothing, so why play 5 bowlers. Play to our strengths, and our batsman are it.

Did you just wahtch our batting in last test. Dhoni at 6 is suicde. We need ashwins batting massively to strengthen it not to replace a batsman. He needs to come in to bolster the batting and come in at 7, then dhoni at 8. We might then get some runs on the board and give bowlers something to play with
