Because this is 5 day cricket, not IPL where a 50 would make any difference to the score, you need big ones. Even average guys like Akmal and Prior have scored 100s and turned the course of the match. Dhoni at best would manage a 50, Pujara and Kohli at best would score over 150. That is the difference. Having said that, no doubt true grit can conquer many an obstacle including lack of technique

you already agreed dhoni is gritty ( not now , long back ) :icflove: pujara too doesnt seem to have pretty technique like rat or nohit.. dhoni got criticized when he came down the track to defend jimmy in the last tests when the ball was moving towards leg.. it might have looked ugly , but kewl eliminated his inswinger and LBW

If a teams wicket keeper is their second highest run scorer in the series, then it helps a lot with the team combination. I would any day take 349 runs in 9 innings from a wicket keeper.

Let's for a moment consider Dhoni's batting average in isolation. He averages 38.77 in this series. Personally, i would take that batting average from a Indian wicket keeper in England over a 5 match series. Talking about specialist batsmen, they have not given us results of specialist batters. None of the batsman is averaging over 50, so nobody is in prime form.

After a long time, Dhoni is showing any grit in test cricket. Since Aus tour 2008, he was a walking wicket whenever there is any help for bowlers. He used to throw his bat at balls wide outside giving catching practice to slips.

He really battled it out. He is one of the most mentally tough cricketers to have played for India. Technically not great but his temperament is excellent. If technique is everything, Sanjay Manjrekar would have scored 10,000 runs in tests.

I think even Dhoni would be surprised by how much he succeed in the last 2 tests . No one can question his grit but thats hardly enough to survive when its swing. Anyone actually has an idea how he has managed to do well when in the past he struggled so bad when it was swinging ? Technique improved ? Luck? Experience?
