Most of the active posters will get polarized on these issues and will remain stuck to their stands, at times even irrationally. Like Federer fans won't accept a well known fact that Federer wouldn't have reached in 2 digits of grand slams if field wasn't so depleted. Dhoni fans wouldn't accept that Dhoni is in fact a very poor test player. List of key polarizing discussions as I recall are as follows - Sachin Tendulkar - Mahendrs Dhoni - Nadal/Federer - Modi - Secular-Communal There are debates on other issues as well like Bollywood Khan's, Rahul Dravid, Ganguly etc, but these didn't draw as much bad blood as the issues listed above. Add to this list.

Nadal-Fedex is really a small debate between 3-4 people in the sports section (but it definitely is polarizing).
Precambrian Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Sachin - Its largely a set of people who want to move against the tide just to get some attention and self worth who resort to blindly bashing Tendulkar without any understanding of what he was and is to the Indian pysche for the last 25 years. There isn't any polarization - a few noises here and there but it is clear the overwhelming opinion about him is what. Same goes for Narendra Modi - almost exactly the same as Tendulkar. Some frogs in the well have stopped croaking after the 2014 election results, but some still exist who really haven't grasped the verdict and still resort to croaking. Whether it is out of sheer habit or whether they get a kick from seeing themselves torn up into bits on internet forums is best left to themselves.

Both in terms of the heat of the argument and research on the argument. But I would take that as the offshoot of the Sachin discussion. If it didn't involve Sachin, people wouldn't have become so passionate.

Nobody would watch those grainy black and white videos of Bradman just for fun. Vijay Sharma aka Nirvanam had creates a comprehensive index to rate batsmen across era. So there was some work done. And on other point, all research are done to suit one or other agendas, even the advanced ones, so that's okay.

Probably same with anything else. 100m times coming down by 1 second, better training, better equipment, better coaching to go with improvement in genral. Watch vids of Bradman showcasing his shots and it doesn't look good. In every sport newer generation is better but what counts is how you did in your era against competition back then. If that same Bradman played in a team today he would be a hack. If 100m champ from 1950 ran today he won't qualify. If a boxer from 1950 boxed today he would be KTFO in 1st round.
