Come on, England got beat by Sri Lanka in England:hysterical: so some real issues with Indian players. There is some major leadership issues within Indian cricket too despite all the money but true priorities of players are aligned to the shorter formats. BUT For indian fans (outside ICF), ODI World Cup is THE one that counts everything in between is just time pass, and Indian players respond to this. And performances in the ODI format is what gets you the sponsors, fame, name, fans, and the obvious IPl circus contract...

I do worry about this. I'm relatively new to the game but test cricket seems sooo much more interesting than the shorter formats. Hope it survives.

If you're into Test cricket, which I'm sure many of us are, its extremely painful to follow a side who don't really care much for the format. You'd be better served finding another side to support.

Don't worry, it will survive in Eng, Aus and SA. The other countries were never really good at it anyway, well apart from the West Indies but they're finished now.

And I don't see why that is wrong either. The OP has a victim complex but lets not throw a superiority complex argument. From one extreme to the other.

Tests are not bygone, they're just not a good fit for our players, who prefer to excel in the other formats. And I don't see anything wrong with that. From the players' perspective, you go where there is opportunity to make a living. From the fans' perspective, you go where there is entertainment that you can afford the time and money. Other countries can strive to be good at it. There is no reason to fret our losses in this format as long as we dominate in the other forms. What gets me is the contention that test cricket is somehow superior to the other forms. Every form of cricket has a unique charm and one must learn must to enjoy them all, and not denigrate the newer forms just because they want to cling to the way the game was played when they were growing up.

I don't at all agree with the OP's premise (about test cricket being uninteresting), but I agree with the conclusion! It is time for India to withdraw from the test cricket format for good. We are just not good enough to be even an also-ran, and there is no indication that we will ever be. Therefore, why waste everybody's time?! Instead, focus on what we are good at, namely playing kabaddi, and organizing (not playing) T20 cricket tournaments.

Tests are boring and ODIs+20-20 are more entertaining(to most people) but that doesn't mean they should be abandoned altogether. Whatever format the team participates in, the least that is expected of them is to show that they belong and can compete on equal terms. Just because a bunch of overrated stars put up spineless displays time and again in tests, it doesn't mean the end of that format. Leave test matches to the non glamorous, boring players who can show some fight and let the stars thrive in the slam bang format.

Its not a case of superiority complex. IPL is not as good a test of cricketing talent/strategy etc is very much obvious to anyone who has watched cricket for some time.

India does not deserve 5 test series. 2 tests at the most. Test cricket is well and truly alive. Lot of fans follow as you can see discussions about it in various forums , social network. If anything these 7 match bilateral ODI series that ought to go first. Nobody remembers them or bothers about results.

LOIs are good only for multi national tournaments. No one remembers the result of bilateral LOIs, it's only the test performances that are remembered for long.
