Glenn McGrath: 'I couldn't bring myself to set a batsman up by giving him runs'

He is not fit to tie the other two's shoe laces
How? He has been injury prone but still has been as good as any. Average of 22, SR of 48 and ER of 2.80. I do not see any one having that good an ER in this era in test cricket.

(1) Anyone in our current slip cordon that could've taken that? Think not.
Precisely my thoughts! Back in those days when Azhar was in the slips... Jeez how many matches we might have lost due to not having a good slip cordon?

My thoughts on McGrath - Someone who really really understood his strengths and stuck to it. He was unbelievably accurate, but also repetitive. He thrived on bouncy pitches that Aus, SA and to some extent even England offered. Plus he also thrived on the pressure bowlers from the other end gave - Gillespie, Warne etc. Plus the brilliance of the fielders. But honestly a league below Steyn.

Then you need start watching more of him. Had it not been for his injuries, he would have given Steyn a run for his money. Already is.

He managed to get some some good numbers but comparing him to Steyn like ridiculous. Vernon Philander has better numbers than Harris at this point. Doesn't mean Philander is comparable to Steyn. Steyn easily is the best modern fast bowler and probably one of the greatest ever fast bowlers.

Lol at first I thought Robbie was talking about Chris Harris, and I thought :WTF: Didn't realise he was referring to Ryano till I saw rkt's post. McGrath was my most hated cricketer for a time. His crime? Simply being TOO DAMN GOOD. He even more than Warne was the reason Australia dominated for so long. Then Gilchrist came along and made them virtually unbeatable (remember it took that freak innings by VVS in Kolkata to end their 16-in-a-row streak).

Please watch him bowl he does everything what steyn does infact he has less swing but better control and movement both ways just check his wicket of Cook which started his downfall ...McGrath used to bowl like that

BS... he can't put fear in batsmen.. he was an irritator... who wouldn't have thrived without support from the other end.

He bowled well without Warne and maybe Warne needed him for support. Maybe all those bowlers needed him for support instead of the other way around? Remember McGrath was always opening the bowling and normally he would put pressure on the other team straight away. He is a freak, you can't get another bowler as good as him with that skillset. He wasn't fast but he was tall, that had that mental strength and a metronomic action. He is a different type of bowler to Steyn, Johnson and so on and he wasn't trying to scare a batsman at all.

Can't expect more from person who does not watch tests or understands it and thinks it's dead ...now everything makes sense ...:nice:

Few posts are lol worthy. McGrath was 85mph consistently when was young and he slowed down only at the end of his career when he had learnt the tricks of the trade...
