yoda Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 How would you save an animal that wouldn't even exist otherwise? No reason for breeding livestock if we went vegetarian. Eventually breeding for eating will stop if all of us are Vegetarians, so let's start small. :winky:
yoda Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Save animals? If we don't eat chicken, imagine the raucous every morning created by roosters, them multiplying rapidly due to uninhibited breeding. Unless it spoils the ecosystem, there's no reason why we shouldn't eat a particular species. It's all part of the food chain. Natural selection will determine survival of the fittest as long we don't alter that by our own initiated breeding.
Texan Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Eventually breeding for eating will stop if all of us are Vegetarians' date=' so let's start small. :winky:[/quote'] But if The Almighty wanted all of us to be vegetarians, He would not have made us omnivores.
FischerTal Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 on a serious note, expecting indians to be vegetarian is a bit offensive IMO because of India's huge coastal line. many of the poor people depend on fishing for survival and more often than not, fish is a staple diet for them.
Muloghonto Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 And to be honest, its not healthy diet to be a veggie. It CAN be healthier but nobody i've ever met (who is a strict veggie) eats 4 different kind of beans,2 different kinds of spinach 2 different kinds of lentils, a ton of cheese or milk product and 2 cups of nuts everyday. So in reality, most normal veggie diets (which are composed of potato/onion/garlic plus 3-4 different veggies max) are deficient.

Missing vitamin D, proteins and omega-3 fatty acids.
Muloghonto Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Ohh yes' date=' exclusive veggie diet is not healthy at all. Missing vitamin D, proteins and omega-3 fatty acids.[/quote'] I just want to stress that it is so in practice in 99.99% cases. Veggie diets dont have to be deficient in anything. You can get 100% of the required nutition from veggies, often with zero consequences of free radicals from meat. Or the hormones in farmed meat. But to do so would require one to eat about 20 different kinds of nuts and veggies every day along with milk products. Nobody does that, which is why its unhealthy. This is the point that a lot of veggie proponents who bill vegitarianism as healthier forget - it is not so in practice because we typically eat 5-7 different kind of veggies along with potato, onions and garlic- all three of which are basically empty calories in carbs. It is however, more eco-friendly to eat veggie, that is for sure.
FischerTal Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Ohh yes' date=' exclusive veggie diet is not healthy at all. Missing vitamin D, proteins and omega-3 fatty acids.[/quote'] Vitamin b-12 issues as well
yoda Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 LOL, listen to most nutrition related programs on PBS and they recommend people cut down on meat and eat more veggies and beans.
hhunaeh Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 LOL' date=' listen to most nutrition related programs on PBS and they recommend people cut down on meat and eat more veggies and beans.[/quote'] Aren't pbs programs meant for americans who overdo the red meat bit? Most Indians non vegetarians eat a few pieces of chicken on weekends or when they go out. There is no comparison between the two.
CSK Fan Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 LOL' date=' listen to most nutrition related programs on PBS and they recommend people cut down on meat and eat more veggies and beans.[/quote'] Cut down red meat. Chicken is very, healthy, has no side effects and is almost a must for people who do body building, are into sports or other physical activities
kubrickian Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Most vegetarians in India don't eat meat because of their culture and to an extent, because they can't afford it. Its not a lifestyle choice. If you are strictly vegetarian, you have to compensate by eating different kinds of food like nuts, fruits, milk which many of these people dont and hence remain under nourished. Personally, I feel a lot more energy when I eat meat than when I don't. To each his own. Its good more people now seem to have a choice in what they want to eat, than just going by what their loser parents think what's right for them.
Sir john Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 northie ate only goat+chicken+sheep only? am right? :bubblegum:

There is no adequate source of protein for the poor. Also, I hate when some people chest thump about being vegetarians. Most of these are from areas where the lands are plain, there are many rivers and pulses abound. So over centuries, the eating habit have crystallized. They have also grown up listening to why non-veg is bad and is against religion. Now if they had grown up in coastal areas where fish is the only source of protein, or in north-east regions where they are forced to eat any animal to compensate for their barren lands and cold weathers, their diets would be different. How is something you were born into, and which was not a conscious decision, something to be proud of? FischerTal Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 No matter what diet you prefer it will have its ups and downs. Calm down people
AmreekanDesi Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I like goat best. Not as weak or bland as chicken and does not come with the baggage of eating beef
adi B Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 i am a brahmin and a non vegetarian, can live without non veg but its too good to resist!! never eaten pork and beef though
panther Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 Urban Indian youth Don't seem to take religious values very seriously? Or am I assuming too much.
