sensible-indian Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Actually I disagree. I have only heard this from most Pak fans and some Indian fans. Not even West Indians themselves consider him above Sachin though they do say he is an ODI great. So I do not think most neutrals put Viv ahead' date=' Aussie put Sachin ahead, mostly because he performed against them in ODIs. Anyways, this one is too close to call so I would be happy with either way[/quote'] Not exactly. Yes the Australian press has given Sachin a lot of coverage (rightly so) because he has been Godly against them. But can't declare most Australians rate Sachin to be better than Viv in ODIs. It may be. It may not be. From what I have seen in forums, twitter, cricinfo comments, etc - Viv is considered to be like the best in ODIs. Sachin is rated as an ODI GOAT too. Seeing what Viv did in ODIs and seeing what context he did what he did, I think Viv deserves to be given the best tag. SR of 90. Avg of 47. In that era. Plus having an impact that stats don't reveal. Brilliance.

Sachin is winning by a huge margin. Which forum is that? Australian? This result is pretty nice to hear but in general (from what I have seen) I get the feeling Viv was rated higher. Either ways, unless a proper poll in taken worldwide we won't know for sure.
Austin 3:!6 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Agree with our sensible bro..Viv was better. After all Sachin's most runs were meaningless and as an Indian we don't rate his double century anyway.

I don't have time to go through that again. Just because Sachin is my favourite cricketer doesn't mean I would say he is the best in everything. In fact, in that same freaking forum, countless times I have defended the fact that Sachin's runs weren't meaningless even if some didn't result in wins. Geez man. Some people are so sensitive.
Raghav_12 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 On a secular note' date=' Yes. But on a serious note, No.[/quote'] Would be better if this psecular-communal thing be left to chit-char section. If we bring that to cricket, not long before "real-seculars" of India would attribute selection of Mohammad Shami to pseculars of the country. So better you keep your keep your urge to take a dig a the pseculars of the country in chit-chat section.

Raghav_12 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 You seem to have lost your sense of humor. it was good wit, but not the right discussion to bring it in. The way things are going on in chit-chat section, it won't be long before that discussion crosses over to this forum.

Gollum Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 By the time he retires may well be. ATG batsman.
putrevus Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 This notion by some people that he is not a match winner is a joke, this guy has score 19 100s in 107 matches. But Viv Richards is the best odi batsman of all time.

But Viv Richards is the best odi batsman of all time. That doesn't mean he is a match winner. Kohli is someone who comes at 25/2 chasing 350 and makes a century to win the game.
jusarrived Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 you got to be kidding me , its like saying Rohit sharma is our best ODI bat atm
putrevus Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 That doesn't mean he is a match winner. Kohli is someone who comes at 25/2 chasing 350 and makes a century to win the game. Kohli is a better chaser than Amla but Amla is far better in first innings. All those runs in 109 matches by Amla were in lost matches right, some amazing definitions of match winner. This notion that all his runs are against weak teams is a fallacy, Sachin scored just 1 hundred in 25 matches at average of 30 against Australia in Australia, does that make him a bad odi batsman. This guy has just played over 100 games,, he has time in hand as he is still young, he has proved his class all over the world in tests.

Old guy Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Please stop bringing discussions from other forums .
diga Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Amla is a late bloomer, but he is playing his role perfectly..that of negotiating the new ball & anchoring the innings. Lets not compare different batsmen/their roles and the era they played in
