India opening issues persist

Dhawan-- loose technique Rahane-- range bound (cant score big) Rohit--- dot dot dot 4 Vijay-- I dont know why he has picked I think the best course for india is, (A) Release Dhawan to play in the domestics to sort his head out. He does get his hand eye coordination back then fantastic (B) Persist with Rahane and hope he can produce consistent string of 30 plus scores to protect our lower order firepower from being exposed. The big question is, where does India's strength lay? In the likes of MSD Raina etc playing from overs 35-50. So maybe we need players who are adept at simply seeing off the new ball and making life easier for these people. I think India should first try Dhawan-Rahane and if it fails try Rahane and Rohit. I would also carry Ojha Naman /Uttappa as a back up.

Try Rahane/Rohit or Rahane/Uthappa.....rahane is waste in middle order...dhawan already got too many chances....for rahane/rohit combo,both players takes time to settle....so it wont work probably..IN bangladesh when 1st match pitch was good rahane-robin gave 100 run partnership...for world cup also pitches would assist batting.

Rahane is better off as an opener than in the middle order. Dhawan could be persisted for another couple of games. He is one of those batsmen who can give really quick starts, has range of shorts but has a few technical issues he needs to sort out. Its worth giving him a few more chances. Rohit should play in the middle order when the ball doesnt swing much. He is a shot maker and plays spin well and can form partnerships. Sanju Samson can be tried as an opener if Dhawan continues to fail. Jadhav could play in place of Rohit if the latter fails. Both did well in Aus A series and seem to have the game for ODIs.

I would go with Rahane, Rohit and get Uthapa and Vohra in thre. Outside Gauti and Sehwag and Dhawan. Vijay is a mistake.

rahane and uthappa if dhawan keeps failing. dunno what is going on but he has been crap in all formats since wt20. uthappa would be good in aus, has experience there and a big hitter at the top which we need. When was the last time dhawan hit a six? Hurts me to say this as i am a big supporter of dhawan but have to be critical as well.

Rahane and Rohit to open for me with the remit being to not necessarily go on a rapid start - away from home anyway, even in the WC-but to see off the new ball.. 45 to 50/0 in 10 Overs say... laying a platform for Kohli, MSD and Raina Sadly Uthappa did not cover himself in glory in the A team series, I dont know where that leaves us with Backup- Naman I guess. Doesn't matter in LOIs. Provided they are not finishers (like Dhoni, Raina), your best batsmen should get the opportunities to face the most number of balls by opening the batting. Not sure if Samson is that good though.

ROHIT and RAHANE as openers. I would replace Rayudu with Samson. Batsmen would be. ROHIT, Rahane, KOHLI, Samson/Rayudu, RAINA, DHONI. That batting lineup has 4 batsmen that can win games for us off their own bat - ROHIT,KOHLI,RAINA and DHONI.

to be frank i cant believe its come to this. Sachin-Ganguly Sehwag-Sachin Sehwag-Gambhir We have have had great openers in the limited overs from the late 90s to 2011. None of the current lot Dhawan, Rohit, Rahane, etc can hold a candle to the players mentioned above. Even GG pre 2011 was a beast.

yh top performers in the last few odis. Look at kohli, he has won us many matches in the last few years. Why shouldn't kohli play? Even not at his best he made 40, best still to come. He is the number 3. Now we dont know if raina has overcome the short ball issue but always good to have variety such as jadhav. Same goes for rayudu, even though i back raina and rayudu. Raina doesn't need to look over his shoulder as MS has said that he will bat at 5. All im saying is that its good to have backups. If kohli ever gets benched, no reason why someone solid can't bat there instead. But kohli is the 1st name on the sheet as far as odis are concerned

Rohit had played 70 ODIs in middle order and failed there before he was promoted to opening where he is still struggling. If he cannot perform the opening job , its time to drop hom and look for somebody else.
