He was one of our best bat on recent England tour when everyone thought he will be a walking wicket. He is not a specialist batsman' date=' please dont expect him to bat like SRT, Dravid, etc. As wk/bat, he is an Indian great no matter which format you choose.[/quote'] His runs in this tour of England would have had any meaning if he had helped India at least to make it a fight. In most of the matches he eased himself to a 50 when Indian top order was blown away and pressure was off. His innings were similar to the inning of 84 that Amit Mishra had played on last tour or the way Robin Singh would help himself to half-centuries when everything was over. I am not saying that Dhoni should have won test matches to make his innings count. But he should have made it at least a contest at least in one of the matches. But nothing like this sort happened. The only test matches where we fought and won, he didn't contribute any. For me this tour did nothing to better his reputation of being absolutely hopeless bat outside sub-continent who couldn't achieve a single century outside comfort of knee high bounce pitches of sub-continent despite playing non-stop cricket for last 10 years and having luxury of batting at position of his choice.

Oh never knew he is on par with sachin sunny dravid viru vvs etc please do tell us more
He is talking about WK bat from India. Don't think he's naive enough to compare Dhoni to Dravid or Sachin.

You need someone from other end to stick to make a match from those situations.

He could have achieved that by coming somewhere in top order but he never tried that.

He could have, but he is a WK/bat and not a pure batsman. If he had come earlier and failed, he would have been criticized then too. I am not a fan of his batting or captaincy overseas, but we should never judge and compare him to great batsmen. He is not a great test batsman by any means, especially, overseas, but there have been very few test wk/bats who have done great with the bat in alien conditions.

Here I was just looking at batting in isolation and was commenting on batting performances only.

average of 50 at home is as good as any batsman i never said "atg batsman" like record but for wicket keeper to fill role of batsman at home is huge bonus .

and I was making point about Finlegs' comment of walking wickets when ball swings. He is not the only guy who struggles against swing. Everyone does, but I talked about those innings because in some of them he came very early to bat when ball was doing all sort of things, did ok. He still isnt the greatest batsman against swing or in test cricket overseas.

as if bolly movies are the ISI standards for the movies :finger:
Tamil films do seem better from what I have seen, probably Telugu films are the worst..but I guess the AP audience "deserves" those movies
