Your logic getting weirder... Tests run 5 days while ODI runs one only one day. So tests attract more viewers anyway [TV+Stadium]. Even if u take Indian fans preference for ODI cricket you cannot simply say Dhoni is greatest as you don't have data. PS : T20 is liked more than ODI in India now a days and Dhoni lost 4 T20 cups :winky:

Yes. Because he bowled us to a World T20 victory. His contribution was biggest because if he had given two sixes in that over we would have lost.

There is something called accountability. That is how Lloyd' date=' Border built teams. You pave way for future. Dhoni tactically still acts like 1 test old captain. Every single captain who ever lost their head due to a series loss would have sh** load of excuses.. much more than Dhoni has. Ya openers suck, bowlers suck, batsmen suck.. you could come up with millions of reasons for every series loss. But at the end of the day what have you done try to change the trend? Anything out of the box? With Dhoni i only draw a blank. It is like he is telling us to get used to losses like Bangladesh fans. I honestly feel like minnow team fan when we overseas. In all my life i never felt that way. [b']Mind you we have carried much much worse teams abroad. We never lost this badly .. innings defeats, 200 ,300 run defeats.
Yes, Dhoni isn't tactically sound. I believe I explained this in another post. In the modern game, all the teams are scoring about 0.5 runs per over more than they did in the 90s, and 1rpo more than they did in the 70s and 80s. If we compared with the 90s, the 0.5rpo translates to 450 X 0.5 = 225 runs for every game. That is an additional fifth innings! The possibility of draw is consequently dramatically reduced in the modern game. You have to win, or you have to lose. Draw as an option has been relegated to a corner. Ever saw an Aussie team getting hammered 4-0 in India before? Ever seen so many white washes as we have seen in the past four years? Not just India, even other teams are getting hammered when they play outside their comfort zones. But India looks worse on paper, we are continually touring nations where our prospects are the lowest. No other team has done two English tours, two Aussie tours, a SA tour in 3 years - without any easier tours in the middle of it. Our board does not seem to care for the psychological impact these defeats can have on the players. They need those easy tours once in a while to boost their confidence. When playing away, even if you are tactically a bit short, you get exposed big time now. In the past, you could bat out a draw because the players had the patience and the game for that. But because are scoring at 3.5rpo today and some times at 4rpo, playing out a draw isn't easy. The defeat margins are bigger because we score more runs these days.

Dhoni has been a great ODI player for India (may be in top 5 of all time.) and a great IPLer. Nothing more than that On the flip side, with his through his machinations, politics in team and alliance with Srini he has brought a rot in the team which would take years to be eradicated. He will never be forgiven how he tried hard and pro-actively lied infront of judicial panel to get a clean chit for Meyippan. Overall coming out of clutches of Dhoni-Srini combo would be panacea that Indian cricket desperately needs at this point of time.

^@bulbul I dont want to get into another ODI vs test debate as I have done it umpteen times .So I will put this as IMO ODI Great = Cricket Great for Indian fans I will change my opinion when I see regular crowds for test cricket in India
Stupid logic. From when did crowds become a criteria for measuring greatness? A fiction writer's books may sell in the millions, and only a very few people can understand a great scientist's writings, does that mean the fiction trash is greater than the research work of a scientist?

Popularity determines which matters more for Indian fans.If ODI is more popular then it clearly means winning world cup is far more important than Indian fans (which in turn means Indian cricket) than winning any test match . And greatness is about recognition from fans not cricinfo stats IMO
