Pitches have been really flat

Some people are assuming pitches in Australia to be minefields after seeing the way our previous team and English side played there. They made them look far worse than they are. South Africa batted quite well in Aus in their last series. Pitches in Australia have always been good for batting but there is help for bowlers too.
In 2011 there was pace and bounce at mcg, just watch the highlights

I think that's pretty much how Aus always is. In Perth there is swing, Sydeny first day a little, other than that there is bounce and pace off the pitch, not much lateral movement.
No i have seen green tops although in ponting home ground against nz.even last time there was pace in 2011 and greenish tinge .These are batting wickets.I have seen green tops in sydney in 1st day even gabba.

Well, if a pitch offers little sideways movement, and has predictable bounce then it's flat. It can have good pace and carry, but as long as it's true bounce, then it shouldn't matter. The pitches have been flat doesn't mean that Australian bowling hasn't been good or Indian bowling hasn't been bad. India's performed poorly, Australia are playing well and the pitches are flat. These statements don't need to be mutually exclusive.
There will some sideways movement in Australia, especially with the new ball or reverse with the old ball. If there is some moisture in the air or in the pitch, it will also aid lateral movement. With the pitches having pace and bounce in Aus, it will be lot more difficult to adjust to the lateral movement and the edges will carry to the slips as well. Ball wont swing as much in Aus as it does in England but its not as if there is no sideways movement.

They were missing straight deliveries. They made the pitches look like minefields. Same with English side in last Ashes.

No way that was some good pace and bounce the pitch was greenish compared to this wicket images do not lie

There's a lot more pace and bounce on this MCG deck. Just look at the carry that these guys are getting. There's not as much swing today compared to MCG's of the past but is definitely got good bounce.

If there was more in it for the bowlers these matches would not even lat 3 days.
no we'd have done better.Lords was a greentop too

Nah pitches are as they have always been in Australia. 2011 team was over the hill. Peak fab 4 would have ****d the 2011 Aussie attack but unfortunately they were on their last legs. Indian bowlers are rubbish, that's why Aus scored so much. And thank you Vijay, without him don't think we would have crossed 300 in a single innings here. :hatsoff:

As Hayden said, the days off those highly grassy, wildly sea ins tracks are more or less over. Pitches will now range from completely bare to some superficial grass that will die by the second day. Cricket Australia abandoned the idea of grassy tops for domestic games a while ago as it simply not reflective of actual pitches that domestic players would encounter when they went on to play international cricket. BCCI on the other hand has made a noticeable effort to prepare green tops recently, and as Bhaji and others have pointed out, this strategy is backfiring badly.

Exactly. Australian pitches rarely had lateral movement in the past. The bounce is the deal in Oz. Oz players all know how to tackle bounce as they grew up here. Bowlers from India get carried away with the bounce and spray the ball all around, and do not make use of the pitch, and we fans keep complaining about flat pitches. These pitches are nothing like the flat pitches of India, and if the fast bowler knows how to exploit the bounce well, he will be rewarded.

Bounce without movement is not lethal its more in batsman favour.

Depends on the batsman. Some of our batsmen are better at tackling bounce compare to movement, and vice versa. Dravid was excellent against movement but he wasn't equally good against bounce (probably explains why Dravid succeeded in England but wasn't at his best in SA and Aus). Laxman was excellent against bounce and not so good against movement (which explains why Laxman wasn't very successful in England). Sachin was good against both bounce and movement which explains his good record every where.

Averaged 41 there with a knock of 233 which helped India win a test at Adelaide and several other important knocks. Both Dravid and Laxman had a dreadful 2011 tour which explains their dip in averages, otherwise they had a great time against Aus.

Talking specifically about MCG, last time we got two lucky break through(which were clearly not out) and hence able to restict the aussies upto 333. The 'lucky' break through of hussey really gave us the upper hand. lets not forget We were once 214/2 with our same oldies. Even virender sehwag scored a half century there. The pitch looked flat at that time too. But then siddle got tendulkar, and after that hilfenhaus happened. suddenly the pitch became green mamba! Flat track?Really? This test is not over yet.Atleast preserve your opinions till the match get over:facepalm: What if tommorrow we lose 5 wickets in the morning session, the way it happened last time in melbourne in 2011.This OTT thread will hurt us dearly

Australians are these days FTBs. Best chance for them to win or draw a match is by offering pattas . That is their comfort zone. They have batsmen to pile up huge scores and bowlers to use the scoreboard pressure. They did against England as well.Even on pattas like Adelaide England played timidly. Seriously Nasser should never ever talk about Indians against bouncers. Compared to how England played on similar tracks against MJ we played better. They were literally ready to run away from the crease.

Last Time Even perth looked like Road too, when warner was flaying our bowlers. It looked as if there was no life in the pitch. But yadav finally found his zone right and was all over the australians.True pitches(not the doctored ones) are not themselves good or bad, its the quality of bowling and batting that portrays how good a pitch is
