Are we being harsh on our noob attack?

Apart from Ishant. Yadav is coming after a long layoff, Shami and Aaron fairly new. Yet we are being quite harsh on them imo. I can see these 3 developing into a good trio supporting each other. Shami has reverse swing, Yadav can extract extra bounce and Aaron well he's quick. Admittedly they have been poor but Aus attack of Mitch, Harris & co. have conceded 400 thrice now, 300 once. Only once they managed to bundle us out for <300 and that was more due to India capitulating due to the warmup pitch fiasco. with time and a better captain leading them, we might actually have a shot at winning a few tests away soon.

Noob attack is no excuse for piss poor bowling. Have seen on nearly all tours in the last couple of years. Our bowler may have at best a session. Then they go really flat. Its test cricket. Maybe the condition is not favoring them...so they need.to ride those moments the best....by maintaining good line and length and wait. Not over doing it and losing the plot by giving away boundary balls or two every over.

I won't be too harsh on our bowlers other than Ishant who has no brain. They are new and it is a directionless attack. The captain is clueless and there is no senior bowler to lead the attack. I truly believe that with a better captain who understands the basics of the game these guys can form a potent attack.

our bowlers go into odi/t20 mode. seriously, some of them talk about how they loved watching mcgrath and mcgrath freaking works at MRF, they could learn so much and just TRY to bowl 6 balls in the same area and persist. but nooooo watson did it yet our lot dont learn and the captaincy has a large part of that. crap fields all the time.

Australia were 247-6 in the first innings of the second test and went on to score 505. Australia were 216-5 in the first innings of the third test and went on to score 530. Twice we had the Aussies on the ropes and both times we allowed their lower half to outscore their top half.This is inexcusable for any bowling attack.

Bowlers need to bowl to their strength, their plan, not what captain tells them too. Captain should ask them what they want to bowl and set fields according to that.

Captain should ask them what they want to bowl and set fields according to that.[/quote'] The thing I personally feel is that Dhoni doesn't like conceding runs......I mean, he really doesn't like giving away runs........his favorite mode of attack is to restrict the batsman........apply pressure and hope they make a mistake......that's why he insists on having good fielders in the team.........this is fine in LOIs.......it's a safe approach....... This approach doesn't translate in Tests......batsmen can play out high intensity spells and capitalize later......as soon as a boundary or two is hit........Dhoni instinctively spreads the field...... You need to plan on taking 20 wickets to win Tests........my biggest criticism of Dhoni, among many others, is that he has simply failed to evolve as a Test captain.........makes too many rookie mistakes....... Ultimately, test cricket is a format of specialists.......It requires players who are skilled and disciplined..........gully cricket tactics and bits-and-pieces players won't win you too many matches.......

Even Aussie bowlers have conceded 444, 408, 465, 315(fourth innings score) in their own conditions and they are much more accomplished and experienced bowlers. So I wouldnt be too harsh on our bowlers in this series, though they could have done a lot better. Aussies bowled some really good spells when it mattered and that made the difference.

Today, this isn't the case - the bowlers were allowed to do waht they want. They were set attacking fields. Yet our uber phhast bowler Umesh comes along and sprays it all over. In the end, Dhoni got so frustrated that he said "Ek line pakad ke bowling daal". There have been times when Dhoni has been an idiot but today is not one of those days.
