Some would argue that Mcrgath wouldn't have been dropped because he couldn't bat but McGrath would not have been part of an attack that regularly gave up 100-200 to the tail so he was making a telling enough contribution with the ball. I am aware that after Sydney we don't have any overseas test for a while, but this would be my ideal 11 that I feel would give us a better chance of taking 20 wickets but also strengthen our lower order! 1. Dhawan 2. Vijay 3. Pujara 4. Kohli © 5. Rahane 6. Raina 7. Saha 8. Ashwin 9. Binny (,not in squad but I would pick him) 10. Kumar 11. Yadhav
tweaker Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 We should groom the bowlers ie Aaron,Yadav to develop Yorkers,slower ones etc.The new captain should be more communicative with his bowlers.

Crookbond Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Give food to the bowlers ONLY if they are able to bowl the right line/length. I can't think of anything else. I have never seen another lot of such talented bowlers who bowl utter garbage.

Yadhav, Ashwin and Kumar are all capable bowlers for us plus Binny gives us some control add to this with this line up we will likely score more runs we will be able to take wickets through scoreboard pressure and being economical with the ball.
kubrickian Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Binny should not be anywhere near Test X1. Test cricket is a specialist's job for fock's sake. You either need to be really good with the ball or with the bat and it helps if you can contribute with the other skill. For instance, Kapil was primarily a bowler who can bat well and Ganguly was a batsman who can bowl well. You need someone like that. Dont need bits and pieces cricketers in tests, that's for shorter formats.
Vijy Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 For overseas: Must play a 5 bowler attack, or at least one with 4 bowlers and a bowling allrounder. 1) Now, Ashwin is pretty poor, but he's still our established spinner, so he should be selected. 2) Bhuvi won't do that well on non-seaming conditions, but he can bowl well enough with the new ball, and offers some control. And he can bat. 3) Umesh Yadav - our only genuine wicket taker. Nothing more needs to be said. 4) I believe that we need a left armer - I don't know how the likes of Kalaria, Fallah, etc are, but finding one left armer would be helpful. 5) I don't think we should be going with Ishant, Shami or Aaron - there are still untested candidates around such as Sandeep Sharma or Rishi Dhawan (who can bat), who deserve a go.
BeautifulGame Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Binny as the 3rd seamer and Raina as no.6 Worst team I can think of. We couldn't pick 20 wkts when Binny was 5th choice but this attack can take 20 wkts?

If the bowlers (Ishant, Umesh, Shami, Ashwin)cant get out no7-10 batsmen for less than 40 runs, Virat should hit the toes of bowlers using cricket ball 50 times each by saying MC, BC. If this happens, watch the bowlers performance next match when the tail plays.
Vijy Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Have 5 bowlers: Umesh, Bhuvi and Ashwin (when all are fit) are automatic selections. Have 1 more all-rounder to fix long tail: R. Dhawan, Rassool, Saxena, etc, etc And give an upcoming pacer like Thakur, Sandeep Sharma, etc a chance.

Our pacers have either bowled outswingers or bouncers at the tail. That is bound to be ineffective. Attack the stumps consistently please. That is what Kumble, Wasim, Waqar etc. did.

We are not going to conjure up a Wasim/Waqar out of thin air... even our all-time best pacers (post independence) do not stack up against these two. Even when Kumble was around, Indian bowling attack was still known for leaking lots of runs to the opposition's tail.
