Just because we tried to outbat Aus on a flat pitch, doesn't mean we always have to go for the win at all costs. In the first test, if we are behind, it is better to play out the 5th day. Probably after Saha had committed suicide. We had to bat 11 more overs in the end. It was not an unplayable pitch on 5th day. They were never going to declare, if they are leading the series already, as some expected Smith to do here in MCG,

MCG pitch was not a demon and better than Adelaide on the 5th day. Sporty declarations don't happen if they have lead already in the series. With one more to go, Smith would never done a timid declaration if they were 1-0 up in the series.

No it wasn't.....if you see how they started both Kohli and Vijay,they were playing for the draw initially and picking the ball on merit...once they got close,got well settled is when they started to keep the target in mind...which again was the right desicion. How do you know? Every chase need a platform, unless you have Sehwag in team. Its planned chase. They cannot chase from first ball without seeing how pitch behaves.

If they played it safe and played for a draw, then others would say its negative and defensive mentality. You cant win either way as Indian captain. I think it was the right decision to go for the win because you dont get too many chances to win a test in Australia. It was the first test of the series and Kohli's approach to try and win as long as he was at the crease was right. Saha and others should have played anchor but they didnt.

I loved the way Kohli played.. it was never seen before counter attacking type of inning from an Indian player. However, I observed following things, which can be a distractor: He likes to stay in lime light all the time. And for that, he invites unnecessary fights and wasted energy.. On your face attitude is good at times but can go wrong if gone against the wrong player. Constantly looking at big screens to see how he looks He has ego which can create frictions in team..

Its baffling here, that some posters here believed that India lost in Adelaide because India went for win. who went for win? Have you seen strike rates of pujara and Vijay?In 40s and 50s. Philander and steyn case was another thing bcoz there was NOTHING in the pitch. The 5th day Adelaide was quite close to a rank turner. There was no Dhoni or Ashwin. After Rohit Sharma dissimal, we didn't had anyone who could even block. The only chance was kohli to throw Lyon out of the attack by smashing him, and forcing Australia to go defensive. Unfortunately that didn't happen.
