Pagalpanti Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 I appreciate some of stuff he did like Omaha bowling plan vs Australia and his call for more sporting pitches but you would have to agree too that most of those wins came with very strong team at home and most captains would have good record .. Way he played against Australia at home after so much happened was impressive and went for whitewash that never happened before and another thing I credit him for but he was no great captain even at home imo ..if he had decent tea he would have ok even away but for me his major weakness was lack of cricketing know how after experienced bowlers went ..after mumble and zaheer went we saw more and more of those strange fields .. Also how come he never won series against only decent side against spin ? (South Africa ) he had one of best Indian side of all time .. I agree with that. MS was more of a tactician than a leader. If he had the team, he'd get you the results but when the bowling resources were diminished he was exposed. But I felt under him we achieved our true potential at home. I remember how the team used to be content with draws after being 1 up in a test series before, he changed that imo.

Yes we were more ruthless at home and went for more wins ...also it's not co incidence that we stopped getting tracks where both teams scored 600 to draw I give credit to dhoni for that .. Still you have to agree any half decent captain would have won most of those series at home which he did ...if he won against South Africa and England with weak team I would have agreed he is great captain at home but now I feel he was good with some weaknesses even at home .
GolGappe Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 We will probably find a better captain and a better wkt-keeper but Dhoni the wkt-keeper/batsman combo will be hard to replace. India's tail already sucks and Dhoni's retirement makes the tail longer.

You need a calming influence in the team, especially when the opposition has placed his one leg on your throat and is threatening to take the living daylights outta you Im struggling to understand what is Ravi Shastris role in the Indian dressing room?? What was he doing when Kohli opted for Karn Sharma in the first test? What was his technical help towards the leggie when he appeared like a rookie bowler making his first class debut?? Is he a strategeist like a head coach, or is he a technical specialist?.. what in jumping bejappers is a directors role supposed to be? Ravi Shastri...Do you still believe, that boiling the Ocean is the only solution?

Director of coups and dressing room fights.His role in the dressing room seems negative rather than positive.A mole at worst...a glory seeker at best.Besides...he looks like a tharki uncle....basking in the glory of the team and his recently acquired power to cause problems .An average player at best ,now gets to be the powerful controlling figure who moves around with the stalwarts of Indian Cricket...and the benefits that come with it.
vishalvirsingh Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Performance in india conditions don't count for me...I wud prefer rohit scoring a 64 against Australia in a test rather than a 264...A 40 in Australia is better than a 100 on an Indian pitch. Indian pitches don't bounce n are very unresponsive to pacers. A usse are the opposite. I expect india to win or Draw the last test and not loose respect. If india makes it 2 -1 india wud have done a great job. If it's a Draw still it's an ok result.

Well we were in winning positions in all 3 tests, only for the inexperience to show up and let it slip away. Last time we toured Aus did we even take a single test to 5th day?
