youngindia Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Every expert right now agrees this is where india has disadvantage Don't mistake cricketers for the intellectually gifted..if they had them, they would probably be in some other field! ..they are not brilliant minds...strategy and vision are biased towards brilliant minds there is a reason why the likes of gavaskar cannot solve our problems and take us further. Another fact is out number 6 batsman has averaged 14 yes 14 in this series ! This business of making a absurd conclusion based on a few samples is annoying me further. For a few years I had to put with this legend of Praveen being a 24 avg bowler based on 4 tests. The opener didn't make many runs but that does not mean an opener is not needed.simialrly the 6 the batsman is needed as well. ofcourse in some scenarios, a lack of 6th batsman may not be exposed...but test history shows it covers the widest number of scenarios To use some scenarios to say a 6th batsman is not needed is mediocre thinking The 6th batsman has to be developed.we will need him on many occasions in the future... infact rohit made some crucial misses in the first 2 tests! And it's not useless speculation Australia cannot even bowl properly with Watson as all rounder and we expect our 3 quick bowlers to do all the bowling it's not feasible and every other country in world knows this the useless speculation is 5 bowlers will get us 20 wickets, will provide rest and all that speculative nonsense...reality states that it has never happened for 30 yrs for indian cricket... don't cite irrelevant examples of other teams..their bowling levels is not the same, profile is not the same and their talent pool is not the same Watson does a workshorse job.....that's utility service not indispensable service... you are again making irrational assumptions about the 5th bowler...he only shares a workload....he brings you NO EXTRA strength. there are tests where Johnson has destroyed sides without too much contribution or nothing from Watson.. yeah Australia will get destroyed without Watson :) additional manpower is not useful in all contexts ' if your attack can average under 30, you are not going to be complain...conditions in this series also played a role.. our quicks are not bowling well enough to give us a win...it ends there 5 bowlers is not going to make us or Australia more effective one bit And what have we achieved in our history with 4 bow,era every match we win is either on bowling track where 3 quicks don't have to bowl much and just tell me how doing same thing and losing again and again by playing number 6 batsman who averages 14 is good idea ? then develop enough bowlers who can average under 30 man...there is no other FEASIBLE solution if left to aussies fans, they would prefer to return to pre 2007 levels TODAY...but what can they do? call superman or spiderman? we have to develop quality bowling talent...we have to develop fast bowlers properly.. that's all in our control there is no short cut to success like the 5th bowler....that's LALA land and waste of time what is the point of talking about something that is not going to happen?

My argument is playing 5 th bowler will help others bowlers be more effective and Johnson has destroyed teams quickly but that does not happen everyday we cannot balance our teams based on freak spells ..we cannot base our selection on what bowlers should average we need to base it on what we have right now . Ip number 6 can help u escape some times but I can promise you having a fifth proper bowler will have much more positive effect and much more consistent effect . And out number 6 has failed in four tours in row now it's no longer a small sample it's 14 matches wih just 1 win and not one big contribution from number 6 not one... And by your logic why not play even less bowlers you are completely ignoring advantage of numbers then next time lets just go with 3 .. I honestly hope this madness of expecting 3 bowers to bowl 30 overs I. Every inning with full intensity ends as soon as possible because it's clear to everyone other team in world today it's not feasible . Aand u talked about South Africa ...they lost kallis a guy who averaged 55 and replaced him with mclaren and when that did not work out they made duminy bowl spin and played 4 quicks Pt his match they are playing 4 bowlers but that's because spinner is playing huge part and we can do that too at home we do not need 5 bowlers at home 4 are enough as spinners bowl majority and there are 2 of them . Please tell me are South Africa dumb to choose bowler over batsman ?
bowl_out Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Now is clearly the time to go with six batsman + Saha... Saha with the bat is not proven at the intl level yet... Playing five batsmen, one of whom could be Rahul will be suicidal... Play the same combination of bowlers - 3 pace + 1 spin... Six batsmen... I'd pick Raina as the sixth on a spinning SCG track or even Axar Patel and Saha the keeper
Detonator Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 We can play 5 bowlers, if the 5th bowler could bat a bit, making atleast 30 or 40. Like Bhuvi or Ashwin. Our tail is one of the worst and we would be staring at sub 100 scores if the top order fails.
velu Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 ^^ Raina or Axar should be the fifth bowler ok with raina as out 5th bowler
Vijy Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Since when did Raina become an all-rounder? As a part-timer, he doesn't even have the ability of an SRT or a Ganguly, let alone be an allrounder.
kosingh Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 With every new batting failure at number 6, and with the bowlers' inability to pick up 20 wickets, the argument for playing 5 bowlers gets stronger and stronger
HippoSucks Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I think 5 bowlers may be a good idea, with the fifth also being a spinner. Ashwin is getting overworked, bowling 25+ overs a day sometimes. If they get a fast bowler, maybe he'll help in reducing the massive pace drop of the current bowlers due to tiredness.
Gunner Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 With every new batting failure at number 6' date=' and with the bowlers' inability to pick up 20 wickets, the argument for playing 5 bowlers gets stronger and stronger[/quote'] With the amount of turn Lyon and Ashwin were getting not playing Akshar or Karn as the 5th specialist bowling option at a traditionally spin-friendly venue like the SCG is definitely a strategic mistake.
kosingh Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I want to see Bhaji back-- I want to see what he can do now that there is no dhoni telling him to bowl flat balls down leg side.
Vijy Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I want to see Bhaji back-- I want to see what he can do now that there is no dhoni telling him to bowl flat balls down leg side. :hysterical::hysterical:
Gunner Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I want to see Bhaji back-- I want to see what he can do now that there is no dhoni telling him to bowl flat balls down leg side. Bhajji is done. Better to look towards the future with spinners who put decent revs on the ball like Rasool, Karnveer, etc.
HippoSucks Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I want to see Bhaji back-- I want to see what he can do now that there is no dhoni telling him to bowl flat balls down leg side. I died laughing.
vijay50 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I want to see Bhaji back-- I want to see what he can do now that there is no dhoni telling him to bowl flat balls down leg side. He will dart in leg side by default since he is used to it by now.
