CSK Fan Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Over the last few years we have tried many different bowlers. None has clicked long term. Results have been the same. So what next, keep on rotating the bowlers? Try new ones? Ones which do not leak runs even though wicket column remains the same? I think the current crop is the best in term of talent we have. We have a great swing bowler, bowlers with pace, bowlers who can reverse swing. The skills are there. They just lack discipline and direction. We should address the root cause here which doesn't seem to be lack of skills. Take these bowlers, make them the core. Then use the BCCI coffers to give them every support they need. Try this for a couple of years and give them a longer rope. This is the only way I see forward than chopping and changing constantly. Let's see what vision Kohli and management has in terms of this. Dhoni was very short term in plans. For the moment. Street smart thinking to get whatever is needed at the moment. Maybe frustrate the batsmen. Maybe bowl one line, one side, one length. However, this does not give bowlers the freedom to think on their own and experiment and grow as a bowler. Hopefully Kohli will think more long term and understand the importance of developing bowlers who can think for themselves.
Vijy Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Bhuvi must work on fitness, etc and increase his pace by 10 kmph. His batting is so good that he deserves to be there as an all-rounder. Umesh, I think, should play for India, but right now he has technical flaws that need to be ironed out. I don't think Ishant should be playing though - 60+ tests, and an avg of nearly 37.
BlueBee Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I agree with MTC. We should nurture the talents of our current crop of bowlers. Hire a new bowling coach, someone like McGrath or Shane Bond. Aaron, Aaron and Shami needs to improve on their line and length. I don't mind sacrificing a bit of pace to improve the discipline, just see how Steyn concentrates on line and length and bowls around 138-140, not that he cannot bowl 145ks and even Ryan Harris.

Especially, we got to remember that Bhuvi wasn't at his best in this one of test he bowled in since he was coming of injury. Shami still was one of our better bowlers. Umesh, well should learn if he is played regularly. On and off does not really help. History says that other team bowlers haven't done well, and Australian bowlers struggled as much as our bowlers did, they probabably bowled just a tad bit better.

Shami did well, but was expensive. Statistically, he was about the equal of Mitch and Starc. Harris was not in top form, but was consistent. Hazel was very good. Another major diff was Lyon vs Ashwin + Karn.

Ashwin too got better but didn't really was as effective as Lyon. Also, Indian players, even though batted great, still didn't play Lyon as good as they should have. In that regard, Australian bats gave it all against Ashwin. They improved their game and Smith came down freely to Ashwin, along with Warner and co. They played spin better than us at times and along the same lines I would say that Mitch Johnson wasn't effective not because he wasn't at his best, but because we batted well against him and he had to find different ways to get our batsman out. He did manage to bowl Pujara with that beauty, and he is still a world class bowler, but we batted realy well to him. Rahane-Kohli were exceptional to him and Vijay annoyed him a lot too.

Any guarantees they will perform consistently and not fade away? We have tried swing bowlers as well as fast ones which people wanted.

Best attack Yadav Shami Ashwin Jadeja Some other spinner Reserve seamer: Ishant Reverse swing at pace will fetch alot of wickets for Shami and Yadav I think so I would pick them over Ishant. With the SG ball they would be alot more likely to get that reverse and have done so far in the handful of home tests they have played.

People who average 22-23 in FC UG talks about would bowl similarly here albeit at a slower pace, might got for 4 rpo and 4.5 rpo but result wont be too different because even they dont know how to bowl on flat tracks as they are not taking those wickets on flat pitches. Sandeep Sharma played last season on a flat track shown on TV and looked worse than a club bowler. We dont have a single bowler who can bowl 135ish with consistency like Hazlewood showed. People talk about these guys should not play because we have bowlers with better FC FC records must know that Hazlewood had 1-fer in 30 FC matches averaging 30 before this series, still bowled so well better than our bowlers who have better FC records than him. Starc also does not have a great FC record.

It is clear he is the first bowler according to the management, that is why he is the only one with a category 'A' contract

express bowling Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 We have never had a single great bowler in our country...with an average of less than 26. We have only had 3 good pacers in our long history. Only 2 good spinners in the last 35 years. There is something grossly wrong with our system as far as bowling and bowlers are concerned. Unless something is done about this, everything seems useless.
