Dravid: Bowling cupboard in Ranji not well stocked

Dravid is one of the sanest Indian commentators. He's not sensationalist' date=' does'nt pick favourites and consistent in his analysis win or loose. [b']Lets not forget how bad rest of the Indian commentary line up is!! U need to read better, he was speaking of India's strengths at home and the spinners have done really well.
Let's not forget , that is just your opinion.I and many others like Ganguly and Akash Chopra too. Dravid is a better analyst than a commentator IMO because, I feel, he is a bit boring.

There is none.
Navdeep Saini and Ravi Kiran are surely two such pacers , albeit very raw and not ready yet. Pandey may develop into one too. Bumrah is around 6 feet ... reasonably accurate and 135 to 142 k in many spells.

None of them is ready to play for India. Pandey is close. He has not been playing Ranji trophy, got injured early on in 2nd game, was bowling well. Also, you dont need to be tall to be good and accurate. Harris is barely 5'10". Steyn, Philander arent very tall.

I am wanting tall pacers to make up for the lower pace by steeper bounce. Philander is not that good in the subcontinent. He has had the advantage of playing most of his tests in conditions that offer reasonable movement. Indian pacers won't get that. Among our accurate pacers ... who are the 3 quickest ones ( height atleast 6 feet ) ?

TBH, I dont see any really accurate bowlers in domestic cricket. Pandey is the only I know.

He was alreasy in the team... accurate, around 6'2", decent pace of 127 to 137 k, has a good outswing, often gets good bounce, wicket-taker in domestics. Can be a candidate for our work horse, stock pacer. Guys like Aaron can operate more effectively along with such a pacer.

BK too is accurate though he is too slow. There is one slot left after these two.

I would say even the batting is not that well stocked people like Pujara and Dhawan struggled overseas. Saurashtra especially is such a flat bed that stats from players from this region needs to be deflated by 10-15 runs

Pujara's issue is different unlike Dhawan. He will get better.

If Ishant is injured then we need a backup. In test matches, Bhuvi , as of now, looks good only when the ball is moving around. In conditions where there is no movement, is it prudent to pick him ? Bhuvi has 10 wickets from 7 tests when there is not much movement. He has 19 wickets from 5 tests in England. Total of 29 wickets from 12 tests. In many situations Ishant, Aaron and Pandey can form a decent attack in tests. Umesh needs to rectify his action problems and practice a lot. Shami can be the backup. He too needs practice. Aaron can be the shock and awe bowler if complemented by two other tall, accurate pacers.

I like that attack but there is no real wicket taker. Pandey is unproven. Ishant economical but lacks the knack of picking up wickers.

Who are our wicket taking pacers ? Umesh can be but needs practice, Bhuvi is wicket taking only when ball moves and Shami is good when there is reverse swing. When we play in England etc. then Bhuvi can replace Pandey or Ishant. When we play in India then Shami can replace Pandey or Ishant.... depending on form.

Guys- Kohli has no choice but to persist with our 5 pacers( ishant, umesh, varun, bhuvi n shammi) for tests... I saw Dhawal and Mohit recently in Srilankan ODI and I can definitely say that these two cannot play ahead of any of the first 5... from a TESTS standpoint- I seriously rank DINDA , Pankaj Singh and Shradul Thakur ahead of DHWAL and Mohit. Dhwal's pace starts with 124k and goes upto 133k most often( I am not counting the Single 136k delivery once in a bluemoon)..his accuracy is OK but not like bhuvi or too Good. As soon as he is hit his accuracy goes for a TOSS...- I gurantee that he will not do well in TESTS and international cricket so no point investing in him. He does swings some times. Mohit kinda knows his limitations and bowls outside Offstump ..does not try even a single LBW ball some times bowls between 125 to 136k.. I count him better than DHWAL for tests but not international class for Tests- he can be considered a better bet than one or two of the 5 top bowlers in ODI.. so he definitely should be considered for ODI's in future but not for Tests. DINDA- he should get another chance some how to prove his mettle. Pankaj Singh - if he is bowling well, he should also be considered again. Shradul Thakur and bumrah should be monitored closely and can play tests when they come out well- if they really come out.

Dont think India have any option other than hoping either of Umesh or Aaron come good soon...or we need to unearth one spinner who can actually give the ball a tweak ..kumble had started somethin recently to seach spinnin talent..

We had some pretty quick and accurate fast bowlers in our u19 team. Where are they? Its too bad our system doesn't allow them to play in ranjis where old people dominate. That Pakistani dude zia ul haq was way slower than our u 19 bowlers in that world cup but he is now he has been hyped up by Pakistanis and he may get picked very soon. Here, in India, these bowlers haven't made it to Ranjis. Even if they got picked in the 15, they don't get to play in the 11. What tragedy.

I don't call Ishant as accurate, he is accurate among our bowlers due to one reason, batsmen choosing to leave because they are so outside offstump and they don't have to play them. Being accurate means, you have to make them play often and not leak runs.If batsmen take chances they will lose their wicket.

He was the only one who kept Warner at peace when Warner was smoking others and he did made him play most often. His ER is 3.5 was pretty good if you consider how others went. He also suffered due to others and that short ball strategy to Johnson.
