Tiger80 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 New Delhi: The government on Tuesday released the latest tiger population report which shows a bump up in population. According to the report, the overall figure of tigers in India is at present 2226 as compared to 1706 in 2010. Environment and Forest Minister Prakash Javadekar Tuesday said that the tiger population in India had increased by 30.5 percent, and the country was now prepared to share with other countries its good practices. "The tiger population has gone up from 1,706 to 2,226 tigers. We are proud of our efforts. This corresponds to a little over 30 percent increase," Javadekar said at the inaugural session of the meeting of field directors and chief wildlife wardens on best practices and wildlife crime monitoring systems organised by National Tiger Conservation Authority. "We have got adequate tigers. We are now ready to exchange tigers and share our good practices with other countries," he added. India lost 64 tigers due to various reasons in 2014 with Tamil Nadu topping the chart with the maximum number of deaths, according to the National Tiger Conservation Authority. Experts said that the latest census has been done with the best scientific technology available and it should give a good estimate of tiger population in India. http://zeenews.india.com/news/sci-tech/tiger-population-rises-to-2226-in-2014-up-from-1706-in-2010_1533286.html
