But in the overall scheme of things.. it complicates things. His highest gear is "getting out". That is the problem. So basically India relies heavily on Kohli to anchor and also accelerate. Rahane should learn to gradually pick up the strike rate without taking undue risks. He was way too risky with his shots more than once. Today it worked. Not everyday it is going to work. This is a low percentage approach. He did not even end up with decent strike rate.

Tendulkar when he anchored the innings he did accelerate in the end overs. That is the job of openers not getting out after scoring 60 or 70 at a strike rate of 70.

kosingh Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I do to understand why he doesn't play only traditional cricket shots in ODIs. He's so good at grounded shots and so bad at aerial shots. Just just can't play aerial shots at all, but keeps trying them in ODIs

If he continues to rely on release shots his career will be a mediocre one. India will not get much out of him.
