BCCI silence on Ishant Sharma's injury is baffling

An inspired last over before lunch and a hapless Moeen Ali caught at forward-short-leg off Ishant Sharma. That was how Ishant led India's march to a fairytale victory at Lord's in July 2014. It was a fantastic spell of short-pitched bowling against players who have come up the ranks playing fast bowling. Seven wickets in the innings was proof that Ishant had finally come of age and was ready to take on the mantle of leader of the Indian attack. Or was it? Six months down the line and he is again struggling. His fitness continues to be an issue and his participation in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup is now shrouded in mystery. Sample this - Ishant was brought back to the team, after a fairly long lay-off, in the match against Australia in Sydney on January 26. India batted first and the match was called off after 16 overs of play. Ishant did not bowl a single delivery. Rather, he did not have to. Two days later he opted out of the game against England because of an injury. When did he get injured? Was he still injured when he was brought back to play against Australia? If so, why was he chosen? Did he not inform the team management that he had not fully healed? If that's not the case, then how is it that he yet again sustained an injury in the single day between the Australia and England games? Finally, is this the kind of preparation that India needs with just days left for the World Cup? Frankly, no journalist in the country will have an answer to any of these questions. The Indian team refuses to speak to their own media about any of it. They are suspicious of journalists, refuse to entertain any questions and all that the media manager does is stall. Rather than giving out information, all that is consciously done is hold back information. So much so that even if a player is keen to answer the media manager takes it upon himself to make sure that the answers aren't given. Strange but true. Contrast the Indian way of handling Ishant's injury with Cricket Australia's handling of Michael Clarke. Firstly, Clarke is a far bigger player than Ishant. He is the Australian captain. Yet CA has been transparent. Every few days there have been updates from Alex Kontouris, the physio, detailing Clarke's progress. The media has been kept informed about how he is doing and if his recovery is on track. Regular media releases have been issued so that speculation does not run riot. And if you have a query on Clarke's, fitness you are fully entitled to asking the CA communications officer for an update. India have done the exact opposite. With less than a week left for the first World Cup warm-up match, we still don't know if Ishant will continue to be a part of the squad. This question is all the more pertinent because Mohit Sharma and Dhawal Kulkarni, the two other fast bowlers in the team, are expected to leave for India in three days. They are not part of the World Cup team and no one knows if either of them will be asked to stay on in Australia. Why only Ishant? All we know about Rohit Sharmas injury is that he is not fully fit yet. Do we know if he will be fit in time for the Australia warm-up on February 8? Do we know if there's any talk in BCCI to send Murali Vijay as back-up? Does the BCCI have anytime for the team or is it only bothered about its own internal politicking and trying to subvert the Supreme Court's landmark judgment? Frankly, not only on the field but off it as well this Indian team smacks of unprofessionalism and under-preparedness. You expect the world's richest cricket board to be transparent and accountable. To set an example for others. But all we get is eerie quietness, complete silence on critical issues and lack of co-operation with the media. Will things improve in the next week? For the sake of the Indian cricket fan, one can only hope it does.

Most journalists have no right to complain considering how irresponsible most of them are. Any little incident will be turned into an all day breaking news with stupid graphics and it will be shown in a loop the whole day.

there is always something with Ishant either he is playing poorly and cannot be selected or he is injured (when he probably would have been selected) no other player in the history of Indian cricket has caused so much agitation to Indian fans

Replacements if they couldnt not pass the fitness test ( I wish) Rohit - Sehwag/Uthappa Dhawan - Gambhir Jadeja - Yuvraj Ishant - Mohit
IMO These Players Would Be Worse Than The Ones Actually In The Squad Maybe Except Mohit. They Are Past Their Best And Can't See Them Contributing Much, Better off Sticking With Youngsters.
