MK55 Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Speed is the most accessible measurement parameter. As viewers, we can observe speeds almost every ball of the match. As a majority of comments are made during match time, comments about speed constitute a major portion. There are also a lot of dependent performance parameters that can be gauged by speed. Obviously, if a bowler is struggling with his speed or is bowling below average, it would imply that he’s struggling with his rhythm, his wrist position, landing, release angles, run up, stamina etc. Other metrics such as averages, strike rates etc. would make more sense when we have a substantial sample size. And hence not many comments on those topics. In fact, there’s also a snapshot that displays the averages and strike rates of the Indian pacers after playing a reasonable number of matches in the tournament. Other topics such as pitching areas etc. vary from match to match depending upon the opposition/conditions/batsmen. So it’s difficult to evaluate on these aspects every over or every few overs. The averages or strike rates will be the best indicator for these which again would only make more sense after we have covered a few matches.

Currently Pakistan has a pacer opening the bowling and bowling at 130-140 and then when you see India they're opening bowlers are bowling at 140+. Looks like India finally have balanced side that doesn't have to rely on the batsmen. I am very interested in Wahab riaz, he can at time bowl at 150+ with very good acuracy for an whole over, but at most other times he bowls around 138 its pretty peculiar. Why is it so ? if he can do say 145+ most of the time then he will get better returns..

Bowling yorkers at 147k will be more effective than bowling the same at 135k. And the bowlers were bowling short deliveries at 135k rather than 145k which they are capable of. They could have interspersed some slow bouncers but if you're bowling the effort ball, it should be at your usual pace
vishalvirsingh Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 the Great Malinga has seriously underperformed in this world cup... why ?? simple reason he is bowling between 130 to 138 with an average of 134k...his full length bowling at 135k average is easy pickings... he used to bowl Yorkers at 145k now also his accuracy is same just that his pace is down 6 to 8k and he looks totally an average pace bowler. he is the best example of what Pace is ..what is the difference between 135k and 145k..See malinga and you will understand.

Agree with you , the increased speed has made him dangerous. Shami should be rested for one game atleast now, his speeds dipped to 130-142 in the last match because of long travel and no rest and sleep as told by Dhoni. Even Yadav was bowling mostly 130-140 in last game, he is bowling non-stop since months, the only reason he didnt get injured till now is he is built like an ox. All this problem would have been solved if India had Varun Aaron as backup, so they could have used him to rest these guys but now Dhoni can't do it because he has useless Binny, injured Bhuvi and totally useless backup Dhawal Kulkarni.
