gaurav92 Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 yesterday we were minnows worse than Zimbabwe and today we gonna win the cup Exactly. To me we are still minnows, we will get beaten by SAF and later humiliated by Zimboks
riya Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 What an overreaction, with a crap tail like ours, yesterday was a lucky escape..And credit goes to the bowlers as well.
Temujin Khaghan Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 i wont be surprised if srilanka defeats us, forget nz, oz and saffers
Deleted_User_1 Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 We've been in terrible form in the past series and we even lost to England but I think we will win this world cup. Our bowling is obviously bad but certainly improving. The bowling performance today, albeit against a terrible batting lineup, was quite commendable. Kohli, as expected, is coming out of his bad form as well. Our team is probably the best at handling pressure, and that gives us a good advantage in the knockout stages. At this point our only competitors are New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. New Zealand play spin terribly and are a little overly dependent on Williamson/Taylor. If the top order fails, the lower order is mainly consisting of hitters and not big scorers. Of course there was the Ronchi-Elliot partnership recently, but something like that doesn't happen too often. I think if all goes well, India will meet them in the semi-finals. South Africa looked weak even against Zimbabwe today and we all know about their inability to handle pressure. I'm not too informed about the match ups, but assuming they meet Australia in the semi-finals, they will be knocked out easily. Australia is really the biggest threat to us and I think the most likely scenario will be that we will meet them in the finals (if that is possible based on whatever the format the World Cup uses). And as much of a fan I am of Australia, I think their bowling can concede ~300 runs. After that it is all a matter of luck, but our team does perform in those high pressure situations and we might just pull through. Of course this is all hypothetical and you can't assume all this from one match, but I think we have a chance - and a good one. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: wait...WHAT? :haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha:
HippoSucks Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 Would like to see India chase v South Africa. Regardless of the India's prospects i feel the entire SA batting line up hinges around Ab and Amla. Today JP and Miller did save them no doubt. But feel these two fall SA will be in trouble against the best sides. With India it is sort of same. No sure what will happen is virat does not step up. Unlike Australia both Sa and India have 2-3 key players holding up the batting. Sa obviously have a world class bowling attack in this conditions. That's true of all teams except Australia. South Africa is too reliant on de Villiers and Amla, India on Rohit and Kohli, New Zealand on McCullum and Williamson etc. But in the knockout stages (which we will obviously reach), it all depends on who has the better days. So I think saying India stands a very small chance of winning is overly pessimistic. With the first match against Zimbabwe, the South African bowling attack looks much weaker than it was at the start of the tournament. We just saw a collapse from New Zealand which shows that their batting is consistent, but still fragile. You can't always rely on Williamson or Anderson to save you. In my opinion it is pretty even between New Zealand, South Africa and India. Only country who has a clear advantage is Australia.
flamy Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I have grown cynical over the past 4 years...

Dont count your eggs before it hatches.Pak game might be a false dawn.

That is one of the obvious results of having players in both your ODI and Test teams. As for Australia, they can score 350 against the South African or New Zealand bowling attack, so what we conceded isn't too bad. Malinga looked in bad form just returning from a break against New Zealand. He bowled well in the death but not too good prior to that. I don't think we have to worry about any team except South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

And do you realize that winning the World Cup involves beating perhaps all these 3 teams and they are quite good in these conditions and we havent beaten them in a single game we played against them recently ? We havent even beaten England in tri series. The conditions the way they are, we can never be sure and say India will win on the given day. It requires a special performance and we have to repeat that 3 times in a row. So dont go overboard after beating Pak which to be honest is a poor ODI side.
sandeep Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Beating a crappy team that still plays 90s-style cricket in 2015 is not enough to win the world cup. Let's beat saffies and then you can start your chest-thumping....
JaFanatic Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Thats the spirit :two_thumbs_up: only a Justice League member can have such a positive attitude

I was responding to the post I quoted saying that we don't really need to worry much about England and Sri Lanka. Both are poor ODI sides despite us losing recently to England. It doesn't require some outstanding performance to beat New Zealand. Pakistan beat them twice (out of 5 ODIs) in December and they nearly lost against Scotland yesterday. South Africa is overly reliant on a few players and if we manage to get them out, the game is nearly over. Miller and Duminy are not going to make double century stands every other match.

Let's beat saffies and then you can start your chest-thumping.... This thread had almost nothing to do with our win over Pakistan. That match doesn't impact my view of India's performance in the world cup. The only thing that match showed was that Kohli, Raina and Dhawan are back in some decent form and that our bowling isn't that bad. The main reasons I think India can win is due to the performance of our competitors so far in the world cup.
HippoSucks Posted February 22, 2015 Author Posted February 22, 2015 Odds are looking much better now. New Zealand is a team just above South Africa and I think we can certainly outplay them. We all saw how fragile their batting can be sometimes and Anderson won't always rescue them. The only team that we are at a huge disadvantage against is Australia, but a slight stroke of luck can bring us over the line. England and Sri Lanka aren't worrying at all, especially after this win. England got destroyed (although by some extraordinary bowling from Southee) against New Zealand and that shows how inconsistent their bowling is. And Afghanistan bowlers left Sri Lanka tottering.
Marut Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Play each match on its own merit. Just because we beat SA, that does not guarantee a win over WI, Zimboks or Ireland. The Aussie teams of the past were ruthless, they played with the same intensity in all matches against all opponents. We need to do the same.

Marut Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 I think we were guaranteed a win over those three teams even before this win. Not really. Minnows are playing dangerously this time. Ireland overtook 300 in 45 overs! Afghans nearly beat SL. Scotland gave NZ a scare. Zimb gave the Saffers a scare. India should win, but I expect some tough fight at least from WI and Zimbo.
