Come the final league match for Ind, - Ind vs Zim - will India know who the A3, A4 are (Aus, Bangladesh or Bangladesh, Aus)? And even though some ICF-ers will say we should just win it all in league matches - can India decide who they play in QF among A3/A4 ? Will A3/A4 be known by the time of Ind vs Zim ?

They didnt drop the match, but they played slow to get another team to be eliminated? Its not like "taking money to do something", but more strategic. Teams are allowed to be ruthlessly strategic to get what they want like Chanakya, even if ICF can sneer its nose! In this case - a team (or any team) wants to advance as far as possible in the tournament, and the best chances of getting there. Its not about "whats pleasing to do" for people to clap hands.

Right like we thrashed Aus (and NZ much earlier) just some weeks ago? Yep we will thrash Starc and Southee/Milne/Boult. Cool mate. Remember these matches (just like the ones from earlier in Triseries) are played in home grounds of Aus and NZ. The only thing we could say is - if we are to be eliminated by Aus or NZ in QF/SF - then it does not make a difference whether it is QF or SF. But I'd still want SF progression for Team Ind.

zen Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Ind will have to play in this world cup as if it is playing in two different tournaments - a) Group and b) Knock Outs In the group stages, India's mission is almost accomplished - with 3 wins and a healthy run rate, Ind has probably qualified for the KOs. Post WI game, it would be the ideal time to prepare for the KOs and work out the options. So far: Excellent: Dhawan, Kohli, Raina, Rahane, and Ashwin Good: Rohit, Mohit, Shami and Yadav Question marks: Dhoni and Jadeja Negatives: Bhuvi Untested: Rayudu, Binny and Axar India would need to give Bhuvi and Binny a few games to see who is in better bowling form (in case one of them has to play one of the KOs). Ideally, I would like to see if Ind can do a SL and replace some of the players: OUT - IN Rayudu - Uthappa Binny - Vijay Axar (if he not going to replace Jadeja) - A leggie or a left arm seamer (variety in the attack) Since we already have Dhawal as a back up for Bhuvi, Ind cannot do much about that option Coming back to the OP, Pool A is still open, esp. positions 2, 3 and 4. NZ will likely be at the top. So Ind can probably influence who gets to play QF in pool B esp. if it loses one or two of its matches :P

Lets stay confident(not over confident). If we win our q-f, any side for that matter is tough to beat in semis. And NZ would be equally tough to play in NZ so let us not try to do do sonething funny and just play the way we are.

Stuge Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 This is not 1992 or 1999 if they try to lose deliberately against a weaker team..Without a doubt enquiry will be held against the players (remember what happened ,when sehwag was prevented to score hundred by sri lanka) .They will be mocked by all .Imo they should go and play good cricket.

Ind should rather worry about how prepared it is for the KOs and what its options would be in different scenarios

Even in 99 it was done for a specific purpose, to take 2 points to next round. Just using the loophole. Here the necessity is not there except if its about denying Pakistan :--D
zen Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 One way to reduce your chances of winning is by fielding a relatively weaker team. The team doesn't necessarily has to play badly, but a relatively weaker side increases the chances of the opponent winning .... Having said that Ind should not try to influence any game but take steps that helps the team to prepare itself for the KOs
