who is best timer of ball

Funny how the best timer of the ball is always in the 2nd or 3rd tier of great batsman.

True. When in form, great timers of the ball can make batting on the toughest tracks look simple and when not in form, they can make batting on the easiest tracks look tough. I feel great timers of the ball get out to too many soft dismissals. Rahane is going to change the perception of great timers not being in the elite list. :--D

SRT did do it a lot but he also had other strengths so people do not notice is as much. i remember how many times he will just touch ball even in his last 2 years and ball will race away.

SRT was decent in timing but nowhere in the league of Ganguly, Anwar, VVS and Mark Waugh of his era when it comes to timing.

Didn't mean it that way. :two_thumbs_up: SRT was good in everything but some of the others were naturals. Being great in timing is something one naturally has. Can't be taught. Becoming good at it can be learnt sure.

Amla and timing? Really don't think so :giggle: Never liked Amla's style of batting... always feels like he throws his bat... not a clean flow like Yuvraj, Ganguly, Murali Vijay or even Ashwin... (Note : no way am I demeaning Amla here. We are only talking about timing, very less effort in shot and pleasing to the eye)

How can you call SRT the best timer of the ball? He was decent in timing. You have to touch the ball and it should race to the boundary. That's what best timers can do. SRT doesn't do that as often as say Ganguly, Anwar, Mark Waugh, VVS who were amazing timers of the ball. Post 2000, Yuvi, Rohit, Bell, Ashwin, Rahane, etc are good timers.
