Donal Cozzie Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 every country will have a characteristic. Abortion is taboo in catholic ireland for example Secondly Non Hindus is bit of a vague term. There are many other dharmic faiths (like Jainism) who are also religious minorities who dont consume cow meat. And its the shame of our nation and thankfully will be reversed in the near future. Religion has no place in the laws of a nation or town and I say that as a non-atheist. Catholic church practically ruled Ireland until the 80s and it had nothing but a terrible effect on society, thankfully thats all changed.
Guldozer Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 what about pork. Is it legal? Just asking. I don't think you can even find any pigs in Pakistan. They are considered to be very dirty animals so I doubt it.
vvvslaxman Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Horse meat is banned in the US :hmmm: though not for religious reasons
Tiger80 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I don't think you can even find any pigs in Pakistan. They are considered to be very dirty animals so I doubt it. lower caste hindu's rear pigs. you are not allowing them to rear them is not secular . What about imported pork?
velu Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 anyone tasted bacon ?? seen many videos western guys falling for it
Yoda-esque Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Completely against ban on beef for many reasons. Who will take care of non milk-giving cows? Will Govt buy and feed them? A butcher would have paid price XYZ. If you had so much love, then let the Govt pay more than XYZ and take care...again this is also wrong as why should tax-payers pay for this? Now what will happen to the owners of old cows? There are no butchers they can sell the cow to and they cannot afford to feed it. What should they do? What will happen to the families of butchers whose livelihood has been taken away from them? Will the Govt give them jobs? I have many views but ( with few exceptions ) agree fully with Devdutt Patnaik ( I had opportunity to debate with him couple of time but he is a wonderful guy - Chief Belief Officer of Future Group - Pantaloon and Central and also author of many books and regular speaker at TED). Why the heck are we trying to equate dharma of hinduism with commandments of Abrahmic faiths. http://devdutt.com/articles/world-mythology/cow-slaughter-and-dharma.html Agree, but at some point , Sanathan Dharma needs to forgo the concept of not having any inviolable dogmas else it will be reduced to a tribal religion sooner or later.
G_B_ Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 And its the shame of our nation and thankfully will be reversed in the near future. Religion has no place in the laws of a nation or town and I say that as a non-atheist. Catholic church practically ruled Ireland until the 80s and it had nothing but a terrible effect on society' date= thankfully thats all changed. your going to find very few nations where religion has no impact on cultural practices and laws. For example, i do believe Christmas is a federal government holiday in the USA. (please correct me if i wrong American posters). Various state level governments have many other Christian holidays as public holidays (in that state) In this case the law was passed as a Prevention of Cruelty to Animals acts. In the UK for example there is a major debate on banning halal food on the basis of cruelty to animals.
Kalia_Test Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Agree' date=' but at some point , Sanathan Dharma needs to forgo the concept of not having any inviolable dogmas else it will be reduced to a tribal religion sooner or later.[/quote'] That is another big debate I am sure but this flexibility of Sanatana Dharma to adapt to places and circumstances is the one that made it one of the oldest surviving religion in the world.... If not, it would have become one more run of the mill religions like we have now... BTW, we already are seeing these 'commandments' coming from idiots...meaning of dharma is being lost :banghead:
Kalia_Test Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Noticed some uninformed posts about pigs in Pakistan so thought I will correct it. Islamabad - Capital of Pakistan is full of wild pigs in winter. So, yes, people do see Pigs in Pakistan too http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/in-islamabad-its-always-the-year-of-the-pig/2011/12/23/gIQAQgV9JP_story.html Over the years, Islamabad’s Capital Development Authority has attempted to stem the flow of swine through trapping and poisoning, and up until last year it awarded pig-specific hunting licenses. Still, the local porcine population has continued to rise unabated. Now Islamabad officials have all but given up trying to contain the intruders. Islamabad is a favorable environment for the hogs, whose numbers are estimated to run into the thousands Known to most Pakistanis simply as pigs but to scientists as Eurasian wild boars, the animals are natural residents of Pakistan’s plains and hills. They generally feed on anything from grass and roots to small animals, but Islamabad’s boars appear to prefer trash. Someone asked about importing Pork in Pakistan - it is illegal...many links are there but check out DHL link http://www.dhl.com.pk/en/country_profile/import_guidelines_express.html So much for allowing non-muslims to import and consume pork
Yoda-esque Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 That is another big debate I am sure but this flexibility of Sanatana Dharma to adapt to places and circumstances is the one that made it one of the oldest surviving religion in the world.... BTW, we already are seeing these 'commandments' coming from idiots...meaning of dharma is being lost :banghead: yes, agree there as well.. My ideal vision is that we become an atheistic state with leanings towards philosophy such as China (Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism) or Japan (Shintoism, Buddhism) .In each of these cases, there is a indigenous belief or philosophy that is being preserved . Sanathan (Vedic not Puranic) is similar to that.
coffee_rules Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 anyone tasted bacon ?? seen many videos western guys falling for it Not a bacon fan. Never liked the crunchy smoked flavor. I remove the B from BLT sandwiches. It felt like I was biting into a muscle/ligament.
Texan Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 So you are for uniform civil code then ? All equal in the country. No separate laws for people of different religions Different states can have slightly different laws, but by and large they should try be as similar as possible. Secularism means you put the rights of EVERYONE equal, so if Christians want beef, they should be able to get it. If Hindus dont, then dont buy it. In other words, if you disagree with something, dont partake in it/buy it rather than force your views on people who dont believe in them By pandering to the rights of a majority A) minorities feel misrepresented B) The majority feel they can get their way by whinging all the time and C) your pretty much telling the minority that what they say goes. And you're an Aussie I assume :P You didn't actually answer the specific question in the prior post. Just for the record, I do not support banning of cow slaughter. And just for everyone's record, cow slaughter in MH was banned by Congress way back in 1976.

Texan Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Not secular. Even in Pakistan non-Muslims are allowed to drink' date= can a similar system not be used? Don't know who in their senses would consider this secular.Whether you think it is fine to do or not is another thing but it definitely isn't secular. That's because so many Muslim Pakistanis consume alcohol surreptitiously. :secret:
Texan Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I don't think you can even find any pigs in Pakistan. They are considered to be very dirty animals so I doubt it. What!? They suddenly became extinct in Pakistan in 1947 while they thrive in every other part of the World?!! :shot:
Guldozer Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 What!? They suddenly became extinct in Pakistan in 1947 while they thrive in every other part of the World?!! :shot: Of course they haven't all been magically killed but in the sense that you wouldn't find them very easily unless you go to rural areas. Just my personal experience, because I never saw one in my time in Pakistan.
GrandMasterSaxy Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Pathetic...What if tomorrow some Jain get elected and he bans Onion & Garlic ?
GrandMasterSaxy Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Beef is banned? :hmmm: credit goes to Modi sarkar
vvvslaxman Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 credit goes to Modi sarkar May be i am wrong. Isn't it the prerogative of the state? Do central government have control over state legislations? I know in united states they don't except some national security measures.. some states have their unique law . Polygamy accepted in Utah. They have different laws about marihuana in different states. Also Gun laws vary from state to state. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_the_United_States_by_state
