G_B_ Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 i think more than returning permanently what we will see is the half and half retired people. half the time in India and half the time abroad. Works out for everybody involved. Lower cost of living means NRI pensioners get more bang for their buck. In return their spending in India supports jobs in the local economy. There are downsides for example real estate they do tend to price other working Indians in India out of the market. So maybe they need to put some sort of limit to what tangible assets NRI's can own. India should make inheritance tax 0%and tax in general for PIOs/OCIs. With no double taxtation treaties with the USA and UK for example there would be a flood of older NRI's who will flock to India bringing with them investment. (this example needs to be checked out this is just an idea I have)

By personal exp (spent ~9 yrs in Amreeka and moved back), g@@nd phat jaati hai India mein wapis se adjust karte karte :isalute: It prolly is less of a bummer if u have a suitable workplace when u move back and the city u move back to isn't some place u dislike.

Especially financial security for my child and then move back to India. start a small business - agro based. wet dreams I know. Sometimes seeing the way cost of living is going up in India it is scary. Earlier 50000 rs a month afforded a very reasonably quality of living, now its almost next to nothing!

Desi Cartman Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 One thing people forget is that it's neither easy nor fair to move kids who are in schools in the US/AUS/UK and are old enough to feel the difference. My father used to work for a Bank and I moved cities every couple of years and never had any issues, in fact we looked forward to it but its not the same when moving from US to India.

Off course, it is different if you still have parents, grandparents living there.
