It wasn't one of those Sehwag or Mcgrath like statements from Maxwell or Hazlewood. They are pumping their team up that they have won everything this summer in Australia and that too against India, which is correct. He is showing confidence their in himself and his team. But in back of his mind, he knows it's a different game and different Indian team who are on a roll. Also the nature of knock out game is different from a regular game. Indian bowling has performed better than expected, so a big challenge for even Australia here. Clarke has already said that facing India in the SF would be different than the earlier summer. In any case, Clarke before the WC had quite categorically said that India would be very tough to beat at the WC.

Vijy Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 The QF went as per expectations, however I am expecting an upset in the SF w/ Ind edging out Aus Against Pak, IMO, the Aus struggled vs. pressure. Were 24/3 at one point and could have lost a few more. At SCG, the pressure will compound and be at a different level. Don't be surprised if the batsmen struggle to put bat to ball or bowlers struggle to hit the ball in the right areas :giggle: Ind has nothing to lose so it can focus on doing the basics right, and this team handles pressure much better. A lot will depend on how Ashwin bowls. If he picks up a 5-er, Ind would be through :woot: :hysterical::hysterical: Are you sure you didn't mean an 8-fer? Ash can't even pick up more than 3 wkts per match - he has like 1 4 wkt haul in his entire ODI career.

We need something like the way Dilshan handled MJ and Wahab was bowling to them.. :mad: The boys have to be charged up. Obviously, this does not mean that we have to lose focus. But if we don't play with intensity, it could be a repeat of the tri-series and tests with a completely one sided affair..

They found difficulties chasing 264 in a non pressure game where our bowlers were bowling shyte and you call it one sided manner? Even in tests we could have levelled the series if not for a horrible choke against Lyon.

Even in tests we could have levelled the series if not for a horrible choke against Lyon. Barring the Adelaide test and the first 3 days of Brisbane, we were never really in the contest. Bowling performance and the lack of intensity in the last 2 tests was embarrassing and nothing to be proud of. Even in the ODI, we batted all right but they were in control 80% of times. It was only towards the end that they lost wickets but by that time it was too late. I hope all this changes and we get some retribution in the semis.

If we are going to judge what is going to happen at SCG based on what happened in the past, why bother even playing? :dontknow: It is a new game. Despite odds, Ind won the World Championship in 1985 and the tri-series in Australia :yess: For Ashwin, what better occasion to do it than at SCG where: a) Aus will be under KO game pressure. Aus hasn't won a major KO game (SF/F) since 2009 iirc b) The pitch is likely to help spinners c) And he is going to get all the support he needs from the screaming fans :two_thumbs_up: If he bowls well, Ashwin could have a great game vs. Aus whose batters like to get in to awkward positions to play shots so he has the chance of getting top edges, lbws, etc. And whoever wins this game is likely to win the WC

Gollum Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Ashwin is more lethal against left handers, too many right handerd batsmen in Aussie top/middle order. Doubt he will make any impact. Hope Axar plays in place of Sir, they were very uncomfortable against him in that ODI match. In any case as @MK55 said we need to be positive, relentless, aggressive. If we are passive we will certainly lose.
flamy Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Let's see what is working for us: – SCG spin-friendly - Ashiwn in form in Aus – Disciplined bowling and tight fielding - we will not drop catches like that Watson catch that Pak dropped – India likes being underdogs. T20 2007. Even WC 2011 to an extent, no one expected them to win. The usual suspects had excuses like no home team has ever won world cup etc.` Challenges: – Aus batting – Aus bowling – Aus fielding :P Their opening is their weakest I'd say. If there is swing on offer, both of them are susceptible. Smith and Clarke are the key wickets. Use what Maxwell did against Pak to get him out. Maybe Raina can be used. Twatson obviously has to be bounced :D But, they still have Haddin at 8 :| We should be able to negotiate short stuff, but the swing from Starc can trouble us. Rahane is the only one I trust with swing. Dhawan, Nohit, Kohli, Raina, Dhoni are all suspect against swing :(( That said, Aus are effectively playing with 3.5 bowlers. And Johnson is not that hot nowadays. Except Starc, this bowling would be just like SA. Maxwell and Watson have to go. No respite. Faulkner might do some of his slower ball stuff, but just get your eye in against him and then take him on.
