Sid Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 He did not play the anchor role either. You can't lay claim to greatness without clarity of thought. I can understand his dismissal against BD. The opponent was minnowish and he could be excused for being a bit casual early on in his innings. But pulling Johnson at his pace, knowing fully well that building an innings is the key to this chase is plain boneheaded. We just had to be 160/1 in 30 overs, it was well within our reach given the start. All the runs Kohli scored in chases thus far look cheap. Brilliant post.
GautiMaan Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 No sir. As much as he was great in the Test series, the Ozzies were not disciplined enough to exploit the weakness he has around his offstump. And by the way this is the first time I have heard someone blaming Test Cricket for lack of performace in other formats. I have always heard the opposite :hmmm: How was he succesfull in ODI's for so long then.He nailed the ODI game, with a weakness outside off stump? He made some changes to his technique to be sucessfull in tests, like playing straight, getting on the front foot early etc and that affected his ODI game
prinzo Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 its just 1 inninga , an important one unfortunatily , but he is class
vamos_rafa Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 How was he succesfull in ODI's for so long then.He nailed the ODI game, with a weakness outside off stump? He made some changes to his technique to be sucessfull in tests, like playing straight, getting on the front foot early etc and that affected his ODI game Yes he did. That's where he should be credited. His struggles against the moving ball time and again clearly suggest that there's a lot of work to be done. Playing stratight is a virtue which very few batsman have. It would have only aided him to do better against the moving ball. Infact, in this WC, a proper test game for the first 30 odd overs would have aided him as wickets in the hand has been the matra. He was brilliant in the test series and the ODIs in 2012-2013 but I can assure you, unless he rectifies this flaw, he would struggle if more and more teams start bowling around the 5th stump line.
vvvslaxman Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 wow.. he completely bungled it. I expected a lot more from him. He was not the usual himself.
David Boon Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 We have learned to bait him better now, get into his head in the media and on the park. Im a huge fan of Kohli and his toughness, he is a world class bat, but he needs to learn to not show his vunerabilities to us, he needs to say less and not get caught up in big talk and what not, the more somebody says the more weakness they show to their rivals they reveal too much about themselves and how they view things, we have learned a lot about him through his ego and willingness to fall for our bait.
coffee_rules Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Saw his dismissal now. What a kutti shot that was. Thoda settle ho jaate.
adi B Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 People overrates Kohli's ability here in ODIs especially overseas and expects far too much. I agree, his record vs aus in aus is horrendous in odis and his KO avg in icc tournaments is pretty poor.abdv is a better odi player than him because of his exploits in all the countries
adi B Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 he will get more chances to rectify record in future This is the only positive tbh.he is young and will learn a lot in the future
Number Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 He will come out a better player after these failures. He is still very young and needs to work on a lot of things in his game. These things will get him going to improve his game as he usually takes things on his heart. I am disappointed at his failure but he has given us so many great moments in the last 4 years. As for world cup record, I am not worried. If not 3 he will play 2 more and at some point of time will come good.
trundlerNO1 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Failed when we needed him the most. Gutted ******* are those who are blaming Anuskha
vijay50 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 5 matches 72 runs 126 balls SR 57 Avg 14.4 And people compare this clown with legends like Sachin,Ponting,Villiers. Guy is good only in phattas against mediocre bowling, chokes in the big stage. Who cares about his useless ODI records, guy is an over rated hack as shown by the Poms in the Eng series. Hopefully Kohli should use this as motivation to improve in next WC. Cant compare Kohli to Tendulkar. Tendulkar was top scorer in 2003 WC and second top scorer in 2011 WC. I may have missed other WC. Sometimes the best of batsmen go through brain freeze in WC. I remember Inzamam makkng 0,0,6,0 etc in 2003 WC. Whenever Inzi comes to bat you know you are going to get an anda :hysterical: But when Dilshan and Sangakkara can become top run scorers in 2011 and 2015 WC, Kohli should tighten his technique around 4th stump line and play relaxedly.Hopefully by next WC , Kohli would have been married with a bachcha, so wont have this nagging GF around.
zep1706 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Kohli's biggest weakness on these pitches with extra bounce is his lack of authority in the square cut. Just bowl outside off on a good length with a packed offside field and he has no answers. He can't even dab it down to third man as it is too risky a shot with the 45 degree bat angle that he uses. In test matches, he got away with that because he could get set by leaving those balls early on. In ODIs he does not have that luxury. Australia exploited that weakness leading to his brain fart. He still should have given himself some more time before playing that stupid shot.
CG Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Yes he did. That's where he should be credited. Regarding kohli i feel his strength can be his weakness sometimes ,he has a good front foot stride and really bends down when playing drives which look majestic. But sometimes he just reaches for the ball ,Playing late is what many say to play swing bowling and movement well.He will learn to leave those balls far away in time ,he is a good student of the game .
Number Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Kohli's biggest weakness on these pitches with extra bounce is his lack of authority in the square cut. Yes. He is able to get on top of bounce while playing square or late cuts in India but on bouncy tracks, with his full bent knee stance it is difficult to do. He will have to find ways to negotiate that.
Precambrian Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I don't think there is much wrong with his technique. More that he failed mentally in a crunch situation. His record in ICC knockouts is quite abysmal already.
