Gollum Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 After protesting against Modi government's plans of including surya namaskar as part of Yoga drill in schools on 21 June, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) finally got its way. After repeated protests by the minority body, the government has decided to "trim" the drill and not include surya namaskar asana. This follows after the central government said that participation in celebrations to mark 21 June was not mandatory. This isn't mandatory, so Muslims who don't want to attend can choose not to. So why remove 'Surya Namaskar' when those who attend the event will do so willingly. Yoga has no connection with religion as it has transcended those barriers, it is a part of ancient Indian culture, a symbol of India just like Kung Fu is synonymous with China. if people don't want to say 'Om' they don't need to that much has been cleared by the organizers. I believe that by succumbing to these fundamentalists India is losing out big time. A huge majority of UN members voted for June 21 to be declared as International Yoga Day, great chance for India to popularize a healthy way of living as well as showcasing our ancient legacy in front of the world. All India Muslim Personal Law Board members are all thugs, they want to impose sharia all over India and one of their members Kamal Faruqi once vouched for Yasin Bhatkal's innocence claiming that he was targeted just because he happened to be a Muslim. Why bow down before these sort of people. I am frankly sick of all this minority appeasement.

someone Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I don't see Hindus complaining hearing the prayers of them 5 times each day on loud speakers? If such silly things continue, soon they could say Hindus are irritating them and will demand them to be forbidden. Actually, that is already happening in many parts of India where Hindus aren't enter in those areas.

mishra Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I think common sense has prevailed. If Islam religion prohibits some aspects of it in particular, No one should have issues with that. Kids can practice the rest. Its about benefits of Yoga reaching to everyone.

The UPA and Congress wanted to pass the communal violence bill which would have discriminated against Hindu victims of murder and rape if the perpetrator was Muslim. As I have said before, by opposing the Congress sponsored communal violence bill, the BJP has done Hindus a favor of civilizational magnitude - otherwise it would have led to Shariah by stealth. Already Hindus are discriminated (thanks to the UPA's RTE and reservation laws) in the educational sphere. Congress wanted to deprive them them equal protection as victims of violence too.

If one expresses such opinion in elsewhere, they could be threatened. This fear to question/criticize a one particular faith is another bigger debate.

We can't forget this communal violence bill. I still wouldn't be surprised if the opposition (Congress/AAP) again raises support for that bill, after all the greed for Muslim votes is too much.

Shripad Naik, Minister for AYUSH, the coordinating ministry for the event at Rajpath on June 21, said Muslims can "take the name of Allah instead of reciting 'shlokas'" during the event. While some minority groups have objected to the holding of the event by government, especially inclusion of Surya namskar, representatives of some Muslim organisations who met Naik today said those opposing yoga were "enemies of humanity" and yoga has nothing to do with religion. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had said a committee which decided the common yoga protocol had not included Surya namaskar "because they wanted easy asanas (exercise) in it, which can be performed by anyone." Naik today said, "We did not include Suryanamaskar to avoid controversy. And, moreover, it's difficult to do it. But Suryanamaskar is not religious. We want the whole event to go smoothly." "Shlokas are not compulsory. Shlokas are merely prayers but it is not compulsory. They can even take the name of Allah instead of chanting shlokas. I request the Muslims to participate and unite the country," Naik told reporters after meeting a delegation of Muslim organisations. Opposition has been voiced by some organisations, including the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, against performance of Surya Namaskar, saying it is against their faith. "We did not make anything compulsory. Even the HRD Ministry has merely appealed to the educational institutions. Few parties are opposing it for the sake of politics," Naik said. Noting that yoga is a matter of pride and has "nothing" to do with religion, the Minister said that yoga unites people and is done for fitness. "If people aren't fit there won't be any development. The protests are misleading. Muslims would be co-partners not just participants," he said. Meanwhile, Daudi Bohra community members who met the Minister welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative and said the event does not have any religious connotations. "There's yoga in namaaz but namaaz isn't yoga.
