Switchblade Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Dhoni's time was up a while ago. WC was a perfect time to retire but like many previous players he will hang on until he drags the team down to his level. The ODI game has moved on and he cannot adapt at his age. Its going to be a brutal watch if he captains the in the T20 WC next year as he is even worse in that format. He is rapidly becoming India's Alastair Cook. :hatsoff::hatsoff:
rkt.india Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 We are an average team ' date='we have hacks like rohit and dhawan opening and terrible bowlers like mohit, BK and umesh.our batting will have trouble compensating for the awful bowling lineup.[/quote']
rkt.india Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 All those asking Rahane to go should look at how other players have been persisted with. Agreed he has been very poor but players like Rohit and Jadeja have been given an even longer rope only the purview of talent. Rahane atleast has a credible test record. That is because we had players like SRT, GG, Yuvi and Dhoni at his best in those days. So, we could afford some like Rohit being inconsistent and even then he barely had a consistent run in those days. Now we cannot afford that. Either you perform or sit out to try someone else.
jf1gp_1 Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Wow one lost and BD is supposed to have a better batting lineup than ours ? on debut littan das is better than rahane ? likes of tamim are better than rohit or dhawan. Would be fair if this comparison was wrt to aussie or kiwi strategy and how we arent up there but to say BD has a better lineup/strategy vis-Ã -vis India is height of wrist slitting

sensible-indian Posted June 20, 2015 Author Posted June 20, 2015 Strategy is not the same as ability or skills. Bangladesh's strategy IS better than ours. Aus, SA, England (right now) and NZ all have better batting strategy than ours. The right strategy is to have good strength in both top, middle and lower order. Not in having an explosive top order but nothing after that. That strategy will work as long as the top order is in form but the moment they lose form or they get out in a crucial game, you would lose.

Exactly, your no 4,6,7,8 are your weaklings also no 3 is not contributing, 1 and 2 can be effy and you can't expect much from 9,10 and jack, also your bowling isn't helping the cause either, in short , lag gyi.

He has played almost 150 ODIs and still managed a handful of usefule innings in interntational Cricket. Rahane deserves a longer run as all he needs to do is sort his ODI game out. And his fielding is certainly a big plus.

They both have different kind of games. Rohit was always suited to LOIs because of his big hitting ability while Rahane can never play innings like Rohit has in ODIs and is more in Dravid mold.
sensible-indian Posted June 20, 2015 Author Posted June 20, 2015 Rahane at No 4 is going to cost us countless ODI matches. He should open or not play. Simple as that. As of now, he deserves to be reserve opener.
asterix Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 I won't be surprised if the same team plays in the remaining matches. Dhobi's ego is well known...

Rahane does have the game to play at a strike rate of around 100. He still doesn't understand his role and how to go about it in Of us and every one doesn't need big hitting capacity. Look at kohli for instance. He doesn't hit those huge sixes but manages his game. Rahane, once he learns that can be a real asset. As for long rope both out sharmas would always be the bench mark for long ropes due to the sheer size of it :cantstop:

Yeah he opened did well and was later removed of that duty coz rohit came back. I agree I would rather him open than play at #4. Best would be rohit to come at 4 coz he can strike big anyways.

Best would be rohit to come at 4 coz he can strike big anyways. That's an option. But issue is that Rohit at No 4 has been a flop. And as opener Rohit has achieved more than Rahane. Rahane as opener still averages 33 with 78 SR. Series averages as opener http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/277916.html?batting_positionmax1=2;batting_positionmin1=1;batting_positionval1=batting_position;class=2;filter=advanced;orderby=batting_average;template=results;type=batting;view=series The series where he did well as opener is in Australia and England. When SL toured us before WC, he averaged 36. Rahane must be a reserve opener for now. Or worst case, we make him open and put Rohit at No 3.
Lannister Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Why not elevate him to 3rd and Raina to 4th? Rest of the useless batters can play from 5th......
sensible-indian Posted June 20, 2015 Author Posted June 20, 2015 NZ 219-7 in 43 overs to 289. http://www.espncricinfo.com/england-v-new-zealand-2015/engine/match/743951.html Look at lower order performance.
sensible-indian Posted June 20, 2015 Author Posted June 20, 2015 And England's batting depth trumps NZ's depth.
kthanksbye Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 In SC conditions our problem is that we need someone from our top two to blast their way in the first 10 overs, this is not Australia and no matter what people say I still think Rohit Sharma is selfish and Dhawan however talented he is, he is no Sehwag in his prime and that is our problem. Add to that Kohli's lack of form and Rahane not being confident enough at this point to carry the team on his own (like the old Yuvi would) and that is why we lost. If we had batted first the game would have been different. Plain and Simple.
