If your worst ever run of form is an average in mid 30's, more than many batsman's career average then you know you are the best. If a tournament in which you averaged over 50 was a disaster, then you know you are the ODI GOAT :hail:

Somehow after that England series his batting hasn't been entirely convincing. And I am saying that in spite of his stupendous test series in Australia.

Yup. Something is just not right. Could the fact that he is asked to play more responsibly play a part in it? I mean he has his technical issues but apart from that too...his approach isn't the same.

Bro ,but Kohli has always been very responsible. He used to play risk free cricket(esp in ODIs) much like Sanga or Amla before that too. In fact that is one of the reasons he has such a stellar ODI record. Minimum risks, high control, match awareness etc are ingrained into his game. I believe after what Anderson and co did to him in England he has lost his game for that outside off stump channel. He looks very circumspect these days and coupled with tentative footwork and loss in confidence that channel is troubling him a lot. Any good bowler will ruthlessly exploit this weakness of his in the present state. Can you imagine what a Mcgrath or Pollock would have done with this Kohli? :giggle:

Yes,after England test series, his odi form hasnt been the same. The century against WI and Pakistan wasn't convincing. Against WI in WC,we saw the glimpse of his old form when he scored 33 chasing low total at Perth. Sent from my HTC Desire X using Tapatalk

Same goes for not so full balls outside off on the up for 4 in Aus. This was after the Eng series, so he can certainly bounce back or even adapt like SRT did. There are few bowlers more accurate than Harris and Hazlewood, they kept putting it in the channel and got the better of Pujara on a few occasions. I remember being in awe of their consistency right after watching our inconsistency. Kohli drove them through the covers all day long and then Harris tried other things like surprising with one coming in and that was also bread and butter for him. He had the best ever series for a touring batsman in Aus, against 2 bowlers who are among the most accurate in the world. That alone speaks volumes of his ability, think how many other greats have toured Aus? Im sure he could have held his own against anyone. The difference between England and Aus is the greater amount of swing for full 80 overs unlike in Aus where's it's gone by the time Kohli is in. Hence why RP Singh, Praveen Kumar, B Kumar have succeeded in England. Kohli hopefully improves there 2nd time round. But don't take a couple of ODI dismissals outside off where you often have to get runs with risky guides to 3rd man etc straight away as a huge weakness. Barring in England where there is a weakness he can however overcome. McGrath had the upper hand on Dravid, somewhat SRT and many other great players. Of course he could get upper hand on anyone. He is the GOAT after all. He could out think the greatest players.

Lately, he's nothing but too much talk. He needs to tone it down, and concentrate on his batting. Our ODI unit is falling apart, since we started to give more importance to test matches.

But the responsibility I am talking about is different. Yes, Kohli was always responsible but didn't some reports come out that team expected Kohli to anchor the innings (not as an accumulator per se but as someone who does his best to stay there till the end). Sometimes such things can put extra pressure and make batsmen over cautious and circumspect.

Hope he picks up his ODI game too bro. No doubting his vast talent.

++ He's still our best ODI bat by far. Just needs that one good knock to get back.

Think it's only a matter of time. Through the covers is his strength but like with SRT in Aus 03 tour sometimes it can become weakness temporarily when not in touch. But on these pitches it should be easy for him. Matter of time. If he can get his ODI form and consistency back he can become the greatest ever LOI player by the end of his career.

tbh I don't think anyone wants him to be dropped in any format. He is the best bat in the side, and one of the best in the world. People just expect alot more out him compared with others. And I think there is not alot wrong with that either. You think of the best players in any sport and people do expect more out of them. The bar is higher. People were after Messi for scoring 42 goals in 46 games whereas if any other footballer barring Ronaldo had those stats they would have had the season of their lives. So many were after Messi for not carrying Argentina in WC knockouts, so many were after Kohli for not delivering in WC knockouts. The bar is higher for the best. Kohli will have to deal with that pressure. I don't think anyone truly wants him to be dropped. They are just frustrated.
