"This win is good, but we need to make a decision if we want quick bowlers or if we want good bowlers even if they are not quick. We have been backing too many quick bowlers who haven't been bowling well," said Dhoni after India posted a face saving win over Bangladesh in the third and final ODI here today. Umesh Yadav, brought back into the side, leaked 33 runs in four overs. Dhoni attributed the 77-run win to the team's performance with the bat. India scored 317 for six courtesy Dhoni's 69 and a fluent 75 from Shikhar Dhawan. "What was important was to put runs on the board, which we did," said Dhoni. "If we give our bowlers those extra 10-15 runs, the game is on. Partnerships were the key. At times on slow pitches, it looks like you are behind the target but it is important to keep the wickets in tact. And these ridiculous slow tracks of Bang should also be considered when he's evaluating the bowlers. I get the feeling MS must have felt happy when Umesh went for runs so that he could prove his point. Or else he wouldnt have commented this in public

Dhoni wants to stress his point so takes liberty with a bit of exaggeration. The phrase "too many bowlers" looks more impactful in presenting his case that we have been trying many fast bowlers but sadly its not working.

Isnt it a captain's job to build an attack, make sure his bowlers prepare well, work hard in the nets. He is Indian captain for last 8 years now and with this kind of thinking, team is not going anywhere.

renjith Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 When a 13 tests and 50 odis exp bowler bowls like what umesh did yesterday, any captain is bound to loose his cool. it is not about taking wickets or bowling tight, its more about bowling 6 decent balls in an over. Even though speaking about it in public is not a good thing for the captain.

He not brought through and developed any young players, in fact he has been awful for youngsters And his development of bowlers is even worse as all his strategy is based on containment and he cannot comprehend attacking bowling. Both mentally and physically Dhoni is done.

I have never seen any other captain bash their bowler like that.
Lannister Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Dhoni's defensive approach is the reason why we've yet to win a test series overseas. All he think about is containing runs instead of giving his bowlers a much needed freedom to go for the wickets. Hence our inability to take 20 wickets in Tests. Thank god he's done in the test format. Hope Kohli don't follow in his footsteps.

The guy is a disgrace now and his autocratic ways are over. Kohli said in an interview yesterday that there were questionable decisions and no clarity of mind in the BDseries.

There could be so much undercurrents in the team. If Dhobi can publicly say nasty things he surely must be saying nasty things to players, in private, who are not his pets... Dhobi needs to go ASAP... He's not building a team for the next captain to take over. All he's doing is to favor his pet/Rhiti/CSK players. I hope Indian media continue to put pressure on Dhobi. Hope he gets a disgraceful exit at the end.. For all the talk of 'best captain, WC winner captain', he as acted disgracefully and continues to do so... SHAME ON YOU DHOBI! You wanted say these nasty things in public, to send the message but I hope selectors will do whatever is best for Indian cricket... The quickly you get lost from Indian cricket the better.

Dhobi will play Vinay kumar, Mohit and other trundlers....Nehra may also be forced to bowl slow. if our fast bowlers were not that good we wud not have taken all 10 wickets in 7 matches against us in world cup. yadav, shammi and mohit bagged large number of wickets and only spinner who supported well was Ashwin.
