Gollum Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Kolkata's Eden Gardens will host the final of the ICC World T20, to be held in India from 11 March to 3 April next year, across eight cities, the BCCI announced on Tuesday. Matches will take place across Bengaluru, Chennai, Dharamsala, Mohali, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi and Kolkata, which gets to host the summit clash at the iconic Eden Gardens. The popular ground had missed out on hosting big ticket games during 50-over World Cup held in India four years ago. The India versus England game was shifted to Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru after ICC found that Eden Gardens' renovation work was not complete. However, Eden Gardens have organised marquee matches in the past, notably the 1987 Reliance Cup final and 1996 World Cup semi-final, which India forfeited the match to eventual champions Sri Lanka due to a crowd disruption. BCCI said the chosen venues will have to meet the prescribed requirements. "These venues will host the matches subject to fulfilling the prescribed requirements of the ICC and BCCI while adhering to the statutory obligations that are mandatory for hosting an International match," said the BCCI in a statement. The showpiece event of the shortest format will take place for the first time in the cricket-crazy nation. India had won the inaugural World T20 in 2007. Talking more about the much-awaited tournament, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said: "BCCI is extremely proud to host this prestigious event. All the venues identified have hosted many prestigious matches. With this announcement, we have begun our preparations in right earnest. We want this World Twenty20 to be a memorable experience for our participants and fans. I am confident that all the venues nominated will deliver a world class event." The Board has also constituted a managing committee for the biennial event, of which president Jagmohan Dalmiya will the be chairman and Thakur the convener. Chepauk has a cricketing history to rival Eden Gardens IMO, also the most sporting crowd in Asia.

Chinnaswamy has the best crowd.Only that the stadium has been made keeping in mind a future beyblade match.

Mohali I remember had good ground as well. On Nagpur Sachin Tendulkar said,"the facilities exceeded all expectations." Ricky Ponting commented about the comforts in the changing rooms.[4] Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Warne was extremely pleased with the “largeness of the ground†after his team’s two-run win over Deccan Chargers. “Michael Lumb's slog to deep mid-wicket found a fielder. Now, if this was M. A. Chidambaram Stadium or M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, then that ball would have landed in a taxi going to the team hotel. This time please put small cities like Allahabad, Varanasi, Kanpur, Ranchi, Surat,Guvahati,Khajuraho and so on on the cricket map. BCCI please build stadiums if you need to. Fans of rural parts of India needs to have access to their superstars.

A south Indian city should have hosted this time .As if only Mumbai and Kolkatta have cricket fans .Mumbai already has a WC semi , final and CT final . Kolkatta has similarly 1 WC semi , final and another Final .Yet entire South India have hosted 1 high profile India WC QF in 30 years . Beyond pathetic and regionalism Hopefully they atleast sell the tickets professionally and make it easily access able to fans .Unlike the 2011 WC where most were sold in black

Only thing guaranteed is 4 India league matches and if India qualifies for Semis/Finals then 1 or 2 matches more - So 6 matches max for India. What are guesses for 4 India league matches? My take :- Mumbai Bangalore Nagpur Chennai

Safe bet is to host in South - Bangalore or Chennai

And why didn't Bangalore or Chennai host any world cup Semi or final during 87 or 96 .Was that becoz of Srini? 2006 CT every ****ing single match was played in West and North Zone .Not a single outside the influence of Powar or Bindra .Are we gona blame Srini for that as well? BCCI has been crapping **** on most Indian fans with their biased scheduling for decades .Srini or no Srini doesn't excuse their pathetic regionalism .

Both cities have hosted enough cricket IMO. Speaking of Chepuk, what is the situation on those locked stands? If Chennai missed out Hyderabad or Bangalore should have been given a chance.
gattaca Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 remember Bangalore had security issues in the past during IPL. May be this also played a part. The only missing city is Hyderabad. We should also consider the travel for players I think may be it missed because of that. I mean let say if the semis were hosted in north the travel time will be more. But that's just a guess also I don't know how strong the Hyderabad lobby is. shiv lal yadav doesn't care may be.
