Yes, the umpiring howlers did not help us but the bowling to Chandimal, Thirimanne and esp Mubarak was pretty poor for the most part.

Ie so long there is no bias errors will normalise them-self out. India i think have had a few going their way. The way i see if this match will be over either case half way through tomorrow. Mathews will have to attack as a draw is ruled out which means close infielders. Ishant from what i saw looked pretty ok apart from one inside edge. He is supposed to be our weakest batsman. As long as India keep their nerves we will be fine. Already we are off to a better start than Sri lanka.

If new ball takes out 2-3 bats, you are in trouble. well 8 overs of the hard ball have already been bowled. I am guessing another 4-5 overs and the new ball is gone. I dont think sl will have another new ball option. Generally the ball goes soft after 10-12 overs or the first hours play.

It's almost a given that Nohit will fail, and I expect one of Kohli/Dhawan to fail (law of avgs). This will leave a LOT for Rahane to do, and I hope that his technique against spin is good. If we had Chepu, who has plenty of flaws of his own, I would have felt much more comfortable in the place of Nohit. The 4th test in the Ind vs Aus home series had a genuine turner, and Pujara aced a 150+ chase there.

Its a pitch where new kookabura ball troubles you or else nothing happens. Just cos a batsman scored in 1 innings doesn't mean he will get a 0 in the next (due to law of averages). Even if a guy like Nohit fails, 20s and 30s by a few bats will get you to 100 from where tuk tuk will get you to 150. If we lose 2-3 wickets to the new hard ball, then its a real bother. Pakistan chased 370 odd after being 10/2 or 20/2. Not saying we would do the same but dig in deep and see what are the factors in play.

CoverDrive Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 we should be able to win this but it is not going to be a cakewalk. our batting lineup is thin and their spinners have been slowly improving over the match. 1-2 quick wickets without adding many runs and things will get difficult. our lower order particularly the 3 spinners have to show some maturity. you can't just hit your way out. Kohli is going to be a valuable wicket. he has shown that he is good on these spin tracks during the adelaide chase.

The lunch and tea sessions saw a lot of filth bowled. We can only hope that the likes of Maggi and Rahane contribute this time.

Rahane doesn't inspire that much confidence against spinners either. Perhaps we will see Saha do for India what he does for Bengal regularly - rescue them from a dire situation; but I admit that this outcome is rather unlikely. It's a real pity that Ashwin has become a total tailender. If we have Bhuvi, I'd have promoted him to 6 and he'd have scored a useful 50.

Ashwin scores important runs, runs when the team needs desperately. I have seen that many times. When the going is easy or the pitch is flat he gets bored/overambitious/lazy. I trust him to come good if the situation gets tense tomorrow. We missed his batting earlier this year in the Adelaide test. Bhuvi has mental toughness no doubt but he is still inferior to Ashwin with the bat. Both are better than some(or one :giggle:) of our main batsmen though. I hope Saha does well. BK dug in real deep and played very well. Even on the Eng tour, his form (with bat and ball) dipped in the later stages but his batting was more solid than Ashwin's. I believe that Ashwin is the more complete player as his stroke making is excellent, and he has the dash of a genuine batsman. But, I'd rater BK a bit higher in the toughness stakes. As for Saha, he has not fulfilled his promise yet with either bat or keeping; but, one must of course remember that he hasn't played Tests over an extended period (5 tests in 5 yrs) - given enough time, I think he will adjust well. He won't avg in high 30s like Dhobi but an avg in the low-mid 30s is quite feasible.
