cricket.fan Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Should bench Rohit,Harbhajan and Aaron..should bring in vijay,Pujara and Umesh yadav..make kl Rahul bat at no.6..vijay can bowl some overs as 5th bowler along with Dhawan and Kohli,if needed
kosingh Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Yadav and Aaron are pretty much the same. Whoever plays is sure to embarrass himself. Where the hell is Bhuvi.
Adi_91 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 This is a useless team headed by an ordinary captain. I expect this team to return from Lanka without any win. No point in changing the playing XI as it no longer matters. This is a team which does not believe that it can win. Sorry for sounding pessimistic. But then. if you don't win after getting a lead of 192 runs, you are not going to win the series.

India need to play more positively and wins will come. There is no reason we can't take the series 2-1. Of course, we need to drop Rohit and Bhajji to have any serious chance of winning. Nine players can't compete with eleven.

Mccullum and now Chandimal, both in the last two years.:(( I will be very happy if they can draw level the series from this point. I seriously don't think they can win it from here. Yesterday, was a very demoralizing day for all concerned with Indian Cricket.
The Realist Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Cannot win a game never mind the series when the number of passengers in a team outnumbers those who actually contribute. Will be lucky to draw any of the other games in the series.

Will be lucky to draw any of the other games in the series. This test was a refreshing change in the sense that most players (esp bowlers) contributed with their bat and ball until the most critical phase of the game arrived. What should bother the team management is the way they crumble once a partnership develops when we are bowling at a crunch time when the match is wide open. India so far are failing to grab those key moments. What's worse, once they lose the momentum, they let the opposition dictate terms. That is sad.

HippoSucks Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Cannot win a game never mind the series when the number of passengers in a team outnumbers those who actually contribute. Will be lucky to draw any of the other games in the series. Can you name the 6 passengers in the team?
zen Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 A) Vijay and Pujara, who are test specialists, should come in B) Since the way forward for Ind is to win the test, the ability to pick up 20 wkts is even more important now (0-1 down) C) Ishant and Yadav are similar type of bowlers. The conditions may not favor swing so Bhuvi's effectiveness is under question. Aaron is inconsistent (leaking runs argument does not hold water in tests vs. the ability to pick up wkts), while Bhajji failed to deliver in helpful conditions. So the bowling selection will be tricky. It is as if there are no right or wrong answers for other places barring Ashwin and Mishra's D) On 7-4 vs 6-5, it should depend upon the pitch. If flat, definitely 6-5. If not, 7-4 can be considered
HippoSucks Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Is Vijay even available for the second test? Reports only say that he was ruled out for Galle but did not talk about the second test.

puneet28 Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 He will play with 6-5 combination for some tests at least. Only possible change can be Rohit/Pujara or Aaron/Yadav, which too won't happen after just 1 test. "If I have said I am going to play with five bowlers, I cannot go down after a performance like this and say I wish I had an extra player, you cannot play with 12 players. If I have chosen to play with five bowlers to take 20 wickets then it is our responsibility to bat in a better way which we did not do today. So I am not bringing up any excuses or wishing that we had an extra batsman. We should have done this better with six batsmen." He said Rohit had been given more chances again because "Cheteshwar [Pujara] was going through a phase where he wasn't getting too many runs. So it was a case of giving another batsman a chance. Right now, Rohit has got three-four chances at No. 3. The idea has to been to persist with him." http://www.espncricinfo.com/sri-lanka-v-india-2015/content/story/909905.html
Lannister Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Rahane is wasted down the order. He should come in @3 and Pujara should play @5, KL rahul @6 and Saha @7. This series should be the last chance for Saha. As for bowlers, Ashwin, Mishra, Yadav, Ishanth/ Bhuvi. Only if we had Shami available for the series.
Straight Drive Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Changing players will only help a bit. Yadav looks better because he did not play. Next match if Yadav bowls below average as most of our bowlers consistently do, then Varun who will be dropped will be again spoken as better alternative. There is no point unless we have good bowlers available . Sadly have to live with below average bowling performances more often than not. It's not as if we are replacing Umesh/Ishant/Varun with Dale Steyn. First Dhoni and now Virat is left for lack of choice. However, in batting we have better choices like Murali Vijay for Lokesh Rahul. At least there is good rather proven difference in those two players quality.
Sooda Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 I dont disagree with the 5 bowler theory, but when one of the bowlers is Bhaji and one of the batsmen is Rohit- especially at 3, that is shooting ourselves before the match has begun. Having said that CPuj dosent inspire huge amount of confidence these days. Either way hopefully Vijay is fit and Yadav for Bhajji. A fully fit side would have Vijay and Jadeja instead of those two, and it could be much better -in SL conditions anyway.

Yesterday, was a very demoralizing day for all concerned with Indian Cricket. Proof? All home teams are bashing visitors left and right nowadays. The entire Australian team made 60 off 111 balls while Root alone made 130 off 176 balls. McCullum pulverized Pakistan as well. Warner demolished SA more than once. It is not just India which is getting flogged.
